With the return of Guardians of the Galaxy come a bunch of new cosmic Easter eggs and things audiences may have missed in the action-packed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer. The trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has a lot to offer, without giving anything away about the plot, but that does not mean it’s void of predictions and Easter eggs from the bounty of Marvel Comics that came before the MCU’s latest blockbuster.

Whilst Guardians of the Galaxy may be intensely popular amongst fans, they are still pretty niche in the worlds they explore and the characters they engage with. As such, the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 may have hidden some MCU Easter eggs right under audiences’ noses.

1 Comic Accurate Suits

The first notable thing about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer is the fact that the Guardians are no longer sporting their red jackets. Despite the cool look of these Ravager jackets, the Guardians are going their way with their team designs, and they look great.

The garments that the team wears are almost identical to their comic book counterparts, and it just further shows how the MCU is striving for accuracy in their next set of MCU phases, with even the Guardians of the Galaxy accepting a classy uniform.

2 It’s Called A Zune

There’s a somber concern on the face of Peter Quill in the trailer, and if audiences look closely they will be able to spot a Zune earphone in his ear. This Zune was a late gift from his adoptive father, Yondu, and was believed to be the thing that everyone is currently listening to back on Earth.

If Peter Quill stayed on Earth a moment longer, he would have been able to discover Spotify, amongst other ways to listen to music rather than a Zune, but it’s probably due to the sentimental value that it was given by Yondu.

3 Baby Rocket Raccoon

Nowadays, everyone loves baby characters. Thanks to the immense popularity of Baby Yoda and Baby Groot, other cute creatures receive a baby counterpart. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer features none other than Baby Rocket Raccoon, a far different contrast to the loud-mouthed and limb-stealing raccoon audiences have grown to love.

This depiction of Rocket Raccoon as a baby may bring further questions, and perhaps Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will delve deeper into his origin, and who Rocket was before he was experimented on. It’s bound to be an emotional ride.

4 Halfworld / Counter-Earth

The Guardians arrive in a nice-looking community, with only one thing odd about the populous. They are humanoid animals in clothes. It’s expected that this location is Halfworld, the location where Rocket Raccoon was created. Halfworld was taken over by sentient robot stewards which gave intelligence and self-awareness to animals.

Alternatively, this may not be Halfworld, but a hybrid of creation from the High Evolutionary. Audiences already know that this will be the villain, so perhaps the MCU will combine Halfworld and Counter-Earth into one to avoid confusing audiences.

5 Prison Break

It seems that things are coming full circle for Guardians of the Galaxy. The first time this group of misfits worked together was when they broke out of a maximum-security prison, and it seems that perhaps the latest time they work together they'll be doing something similar.

Mantis, Drax, Gamora, and Star-Lord can be seen trying to escape a prison whilst in red jumpsuits, implying that the Guardians are due for yet another thrilling and tense prison break, and, most notably, with Drax severely injured. Hopefully, nobody dies this time.

6 Cosmo The Spacedog

The MCU is never scared to embrace the weirder side of its comic history, and it can’t seem to get weirder than a telepathic Soviet space dog. Cosmo the Spacedog was seen as part of the Collector’s exhibit in the first Guardians of the Galaxy but has returned in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with a voice and perhaps a new set of skills.

Cosmo isn’t exactly easy to spot, considering they are a four-legged dog walking amongst tall humans, trees, and aliens, but they are right alongside the Guardians, wearing the same spacesuit as before. Perhaps Cosmo has joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, or just wants to play fetch.

7 Lady Lylla

A questionable aspect of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer is when Rocket hugs an otter. This otter isn’t just a bizarre addition to the MCU or a strange gag, but is the character known as Lady Lylla. Lylla is Rocket’s soulmate, which explains the urgency and love found within the trailer’s quick hug.

It goes to show that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will probably delve deep into Rocket Raccoon’s life, especially if Lylla is involved, as she too was a victim of the strangeness of Halfworld. Only time will tell what awaits the characters.

8 Adam Warlock Arrives

At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Adam Warlock was teased. This perfect Sovereign was created by Ayesha, with the sole purpose of destroying the Guardians of the Galaxy. It may have taken a few years, and a certain lack of a soul-stone, but Adam Warlock crashes onto the scene in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailers.

There’s a lot of potential for Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as the character has a long and rich history in Marvel Comics. Considering the majority of his time is spent with Thanos, it will be interesting to see where this character goes, as Thanos is noticeably quite dead in the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will arrive in movie theatres on May 5, 2023.
