Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was officially revealed at E3 this year and is developed by Eidos-Montreal, the studio known for Deus Ex and the latest entry in the Tomb Raider series. While the original trailer for the game did have some rough edges, subsequent showings have been well-received by fans. This new trailer is further proof that Guardians of the Galaxy should not be ignored in this packed month.

Square Enix has released a new trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy that focuses on exploration, while also highlighting some other key features. Guardians of the Galaxy accompanies Far Cry 6 and Metroid Dread as some of the most exciting games that are coming out later this month.

The video focuses on all the various gameplay elements outside of combat. Players will be exploring many exotic planets, and it looks like environmental puzzles as well as light platforming sections will allow for a break from the action. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will have a choice and consequences system that will play a key role in defining the relationship between these characters. This information was followed by a quick glance at the abilities panel for some of the characters, before confirming that players will be able to upgrade their gear and unlock new perks at a workbench. The trailer mentions that there are over 40 outfits in the game including brand new designs, and teases more surprises for the full release.

The almost 2-minute-long trailer does a good job of giving an overview of what players can expect from Guardians of the Galaxy outside of the combat encounters. Giving players different ways to interact with the characters will probably result in many memorable conversations, although these choices will not affect the ending. While a lot of features are fairly standard, it does give the impression that the game will not be half-baked. As Star-Lord is the only playable character in Guardians of the Galaxy, it will allow the developers to focus on fine-tuning his move-set.

A lot of the skepticism around Guardians of the Galaxy probably arises from the relatively mixed reception to Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers. However, Marvel’s Avengers belongs to a different genre, and had to abide by certain rules in order to fulfill the expectations fans have from the games as a service model of content delivery. Given that Guardians of the Galaxy is a single-player story-driven game, it may not suffer from the same shortcomings.

Guardians of the Galaxy launches October 26 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
