Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most highly anticipated games of the season, and it's release date is drawing ever nearer. With that date so close, Steam has just revealed the specs required for a PC to run the game. While PC players are no doubt pouring over those minimum specs to see if their setup can run the game, one new piece of information is drawing attention from all kinds of gamers. The file size for the game seems to be absolutely huge, turning heads of PC and console players alike.

Massive video game file sizes are nothing new, especially for players that enjoy games like Call of Duty. That said, many games from the next generation era have touted smaller file sizes, showing how new hardware is able to cut down significantly on the amount of space required to install a game. That doesn't seem to be the case with Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

According to the Steam page for the game, Guardians of the Galaxy requires a stunning 150 GB of space. On a standard HDD, this isn't too much of an issue, but for those rocking much faster SSDs, 150GB is a lot of space for one game. PC players will obviously prefer playing the game with an SSD as it will result in quicker load times all around, but many feel as though they may need to put it on an HDD due to the size.

It's important to remember that this doesn't necessarily indicate the file size on consoles such as the PS5 or Xbox Series X. The PS5's SSD only has 825 GB of usable space, so 150 GB of that would be more than 1/6th of the available space just for one game. Hopefully the console versions of these games will be much smaller, as otherwise players may need to invest in external hard drives in order to play it.

One of Guardians of the Galaxy's many claims to fame is that players will need to make difficult choices. It seems as though that aspect of the game starts before it's even installed, as players will have to decide whether or not they have enough space for it in the first place. PC players have the luxury of opting for an HDD if they don't want to fill up their SSD too quickly, but many PS5 and Xbox Series X players won't.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy releases on October 26th for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
