Officially revealed during Square Enix's E3 showcase, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy looks to be one of the biggest games slated to release this Fall, offering players the chance to hop into the shoes of Star-Lord as he embarks on an intergalactic adventure with his iconic allies. Alongside giving players the chance to utilize Star-Lord's various weapons and gadgets, the game will also offer an original interpretation of the character, including a different take on how he got his name.

Revealed through a video posted to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy's Twitter account, Square's version of Peter Quill gets his iconic superhero handle from his favorite teenage rock band, which is also called Star-Lord. According to Art Director Bruno Gauthier Leblanc, the band will be a big part of the studio's take on Quill, from his 80s style to the "Star-Lord" patch affixed to the back of his jacket.

The patch won't be the only 80s-inspired aspect of the hero's design, with the art director also highlighting several of his pins, the likes of which sport references to the era. Summing up how he'd explain the character's style, Leblanc uses the term "space metal," joking that he embodies rock and roll.

Following its Star-Lord post, Square dropped a second video detailing its take on Drax and Gamora, noting that each of the former's circular tattoos relates to a battle that he won. Leblanc notes that this feeds into the design of Drax's home planet of Katath too, with its architecture centering around circular designs. Meanwhile, Square allegedly focused on previous comic book illustrations when designing Gamora, with the team finding itself heavily inspired by one look that saw her don black and white armor.

Star-Lord, Drax, and Gamora will be joined by Rocket Racoon and Groot when the game launches in October. As for what the team will be getting up to, the main story is still something of a mystery, although an early look showed the Guardians going toe-to-toe with Lady Hellbender in an effort to scam her out of money.

Fans know several other characters will make an appearance, including iconic Guardians of the Galaxy members such as Mantis and Cosmo the Space Dog. The title is shaping up to be a fun new take on the comic book series and one that's sure to offer a blockbuster experience for fans to dig into later this year.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is slated to launch on October 26 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
