Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy looks like it could be a great adventure with the band of misfits, as dialogue choices and a singleplayer focus have already gotten gamers excited. However, while most of the character models look spot-on, some fans are a bit disappointed in Star-Lord’s look for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Not only did he lack goofy jokes and boast a more serious attitude in the trailer, but the new version of Star-Lord has been criticized for his look. Being compared more to Jake Paul than Chris Pratt’s take on the character, his facial features and hairstyle have already led to a number of jokes online. However, one fan has done their best to fix what fans are seeing as a problem, as YouTuber stryder HD has showcased a deepfake of Chris Pratt on the in-game character’s face.

While similar things have been done with games like Marvel’s Avengers  and Marvel’s Spider-Man, this is one of the most effective yet. Chris Pratt looks incredible on the character model, so much so that it is hard to tell this was a deepfake in the first place. The only thing that breaks the illusion is the voice, as it does not match Pratt’s usual tone and diction. Still, it is entertaining seeing the version of the character that fans already know and love being playable inside the game.

The deepfake from stryderHD covers all the dialogue-focused moments from the Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy gameplay demo, kicking off with the discussion on which “monster” will be sold. The skilled deepfake maker then skips to the final discussion where Star-Lord changes his choice to Groot, and the close-ups on Pratt’s face show how impressive the deepfake is once again. While fans may prefer the actor’s likeness, they will need to get used to the new character model if they want to play the game.

While it is understandable that fans would want to play as Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord in the game, it makes sense why Eidos Montreal went with a new character model. Using the actor’s likeness without his voice would be odd, as it leads to a disconnect like the one seen in this deepfake. Further, if the developer wanted to get Pratt as Star-Lord, they would need to cast all the other actors in their respective roles. With this sure to make the game ridiculously expensive, making fresh models and hiring voice actors makes more sense.

While it is mind blowing to see Chris Pratt’s face in the game, the original character model makes sense for this game. With Eidos Montreal delivering brand-new looks for Gamora and Groot, this new Star-Lord helps to give the game its own personality.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will release on October 26 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
