Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy may have a big focus on its choice-based narrative, but it also features a fun and customizable combat system. New Abilities for any Guardian can be unlocked at any time during the game, as long as players have the required ability points.

Ability points are earned by doing well during combat in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which involves quick takedowns, and using a variety of different skills instead of just spamming one. So the better the Abilities players have, the quicker they can clear enemy encounters. This circles back around and results in unlocking abilities quicker.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy players should unlock these abilities first if they want to eliminate enemies with some of the most fun and efficient skills as early as they can. It's best to unlock the following recommendations in order. It will help players efficiently through the early and middle portions of gameplay.

Best Abilities to Unlock First in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

1: Gamora - Shadow Strike (Costs 2 Ability Points)

At the beginning of the game players only have Rocket's "Cluster Flark Bomb" to provide crowd control while causing damage. As abilities have a cooldown, being able to perform more than one skill that clears multiple enemies is very useful, as they usually appear in big waves.

If Gamora in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy uses this ability while there is only one enemy present, she will instead strike it multiple times. This makes it a great option for taking health off of all enemy types.

2: Rocket - Gravistack Grenade (Costs 2 Ability Points)

Rocket's "Gravistack Grenade" is one of the best abilities in the game. It causes no damage, but it makes up for this with great crowd control powers, and a short cooldown period. Using the ability on a target sucks any nearby enemies into the grenade's radius, creating a clump of targets that can be easily killed using another skill that aims for multiple enemies.

Using "Gravistack Grenade" and then Gamora's "Shadow Strike" is one of the best combinations throughout the entirety of Square Enix's Guardians of the Galaxy for eliminating lower-leveled enemies quickly and easily.

3: Star-Lord - Eye of the Hurricane (Costs 3 Ability Points)

It's a little pricey, but Star-Lord's "Eye of the Hurricane" is best unlocked over cheaper abilities because of its excellent balance. It provides equal parts Stagger and Physical damage to multiple enemies surrounding him, and has a very short cooldown period.

It is also effective right after Rocket's "Gravistack Grenade" skill has been used, but is best activated when trying to raise the Stagger gauge of multiple mid-level villains in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

4: Rocket - "Glowing Pains Grenade" (Costs 3 Ability Points)

Another great support skill from Rocket in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. "Glowing Pains Grenade" can be thrown at a single, or group of enemies before using another team member's Stagger ability.

It boosts the amount of Stagger applied to enemies for a short while, meaning fewer Stagger abilities need to be used to achieve the same amount. This frees up other abilities the team can use to down tricky enemies.

After this, players can invest in whichever skills they think they will enjoy the most while playing

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
