This past summer at the digital E3 2021, Square Enix surprised a lot of fans by devoting a big chunk of its time to Marvel. Not only did the company introduce the Avengers: War for Wakanda expansion, bringing Black Panther to the live service game, but it also introduced fans to Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos Montreal. While this is Eidos Montreal's original take on the Marvel team, the game looks to keep the tone fans have come to know both from the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since then, plenty of news and trailers have continued to arrive, showing off new gameplay and characters like Cosmo the Space Dog, Lady Hellbender, and more. With only a week to go before launch, fans were a little shocked recently to learn that Guardians of the Galaxy's PC file size requirements would take up an absolutely massive 150 GB of space. This number immediately made console players a bit nervous as many games lately have been requiring more and more space in order to install.

Thankfully, things appear to be improving in terms of the file size requirements. The official Guardians of the Galaxy Twitter account provided an update for fans concerned about their hard drive space, a common feeling considering the ballooning size of many modern games like the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard. The original 150 GB requirement has been removed as the studio has been continuing to make updates and optimizing the game as a whole. As the game is now in the final stages of this process, the launch day file size for Guardians of the Galaxy on PC has been significantly lowered to 80 GB.

What's more, the account went on to confirm the console size requirements as well. When specifically asked by a fan, the Guardians of the Galaxy Twitter account responded by saying that console players, for both old-gen and next-gen owners, would need around 50 GB in order to install the game. Currently, Xbox players who have the game digitally pre-ordered can also preload the game, while PlayStation players can do so 48 hours from release. Eidos Montreal is looking into getting a preload system enabled for the Steam version, but has nothing to announce at this time.

After the controversy with Marvel's Avengers and its live service component, Guardians of the Galaxy is taking a completely different approach being a single player, story focused style game. In fact, numerous previews for the game have compared some of its gameplay to Mass Effect, as players can not only give commands to the other Guardians during combat, but there will also be a branching narrative that lets players make choices during dialogue.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy releases on October 26th for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
