The gaming community has done it again. This year’s Guardian Con charity stream, as well as other pre-stream charity endeavors, has raised $3.7 Million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Earlier today, the final block of the Guardian Con stream came to a close with Dr. Lupo, a longtime member of the Destiny community, a professional streamer for Rogue, and most importantly an avid supporter of St. Jude. Lupo’s was the top-earning block during last year’s Guardian Con stream so expectations were pretty high, and needless to say he shattered his previous record.

Those expectations were raised when Bungie took over a block earlier in the week and raised about $400,000 during its 4-hour block. Lupo shattered the Destiny 2 developer’s record by accumulating $920,000 in donations for St. Jude, bringing the final total for Guardian Con to $3.7 Million heading into the event.

This year, a variety of streamers from across tons of gaming communities and streaming services pulled in huge amounts during their blocks, and there was even support from games (and their developers) like Dauntless and Warframe. The streams have become a highlight of the run-up to Guardian Con, both in seeing who will participate and how much will be raised.

For those that might not be familiar, Guardian Con is an annual gaming event born out of the Destiny community. It started as a meet-up in a bar, grew into a full-blown convention called Destiny Community Con, and then expanded to include new communities under the Guardian Con umbrella.

This year’s event is poised to be the biggest Guardian Con event with developers from Bungie, Gearbox Software, Digital Extremes, and Rare slated to have booth spaces and hold panels. Guardian Con attendees will also have the opportunity to play games from these developers, which includes hands-on time with Borderlands 3.

Guardian Con is also an opportunity for attendees to meet and interact with members from those game’s communities (and more). Dr. Lupo will certainly be there but there is a whole schedule of events and meet and greets planned with popular streamers from across Twitch, Mixer, Facebook, and YouTube.

But while the event is the reward for attendees, the goal has always been to raise money for a great cause like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And once again, the gaming community has crushed expectations and put a little more good back into the world.
