The Grand Theft Auto franchise gives players countless opportunities to commit crimes, including the titular felony, but it also presents countless opportunities for players to get arrested. However, sometimes bugs appear to create entirely new ways for an all-out gunfight to be interrupted by law enforcement. One Grand Theft Auto Vice City player discovered this when they were seemingly arrested by an invisible cop.

With Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition now released, players everywhere may be taking to the streets with illegal arsenals and stealing every car they come across. However, the Grand Theft Auto games have never allowed players to break the law without bringing the possibility of punishment to the table, even if that punishment appears to come out of nowhere.

Redditor mr_pancakez shared a 31-second-long video clip of themself engaging in a gunfight on the street in the role of hardened criminal Thomas "Tommy" Vercetti. After scrambling around, swapping weapons, and enduring a nearby explosion, the player guided Tommy toward an innocent-looking yellow car. The second Tommy Vercetti had closed the door behind him and settled into the vehicle, a police siren began to sound, the screen lit up in red and blue, and text reading "Busted!" appeared despite no police officers being visible.

Mr_pancakez expresses confusion in the title of the post, which reads "What just happened?" As of writing, it appears that other players are also confused about what exactly caused the incident, but one user proposed an interesting explanation in line with things that actual police officers have pulled off in real life.

They proposed that the yellow car was in fact a high-tech bait car set out by the police that contained cameras, radio trackers, and a dedicated troop of cops already watching its every move. While it's uncertain whether or not Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition allows for bait cars, this theory would explain how Tommy Vercetti was arrested despite police not seeming to be present.

Other fans weighed in on the subject by sharing their own theories about this bizarre glitch found in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition. One user suggested that there was a cop hiding in the passenger seat, while another guessed that a bug had shortened the distance required for a cop to arrest Tommy Vercetti. A third user came up with a more far-fetched explanation: Tommy Vercetti himself was actually an undercover cop.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
