6 Cross-Generational Release

Rockstar Games' marketing strategy with Grand Theft Auto V was pretty spot-on. Their main idea was not to talk about a next-gen version of GTA V, essentially forcing players to think that it is now or never. 5 No Main Previous Gen Character Returns

When the first trailer was released for Grand Theft Auto V, a lot of people mistook Michael De Santa for a mid-age Tommy Vercetti. But considering the timeline of the game, it didn't make much sense.

As people got to know the game was in Los Santos, people expected to see Carl Johnson in the game as well. However, a few rumors at the time suggested that no main character from the old games would show up in GTA V. This was later confirmed by Rockstar as well.

It was as early as 2011 when some actually potent Grand Theft Auto V rumors started spreading. While some of them stated that the game would set in Vice City, looking at the obvious V from GTA V, some suggested it be set in Los Santos.

It was Kotaku who first reported that the game would be set in Los Angeles or the fictional counterpart of the location. This totally turned out to be the case when the trailer and other information was officially revealed by Rockstar later.

While GTA IV has offered some modifications, its successor was built to change the whole ball game. According to a list of details leaked about GTA V, the game was set to offer a range of cars and weapons modifications.

This included adding a suppressor to the firearm and installing nitrous oxide in the cars. The whole rumor turned out to be one of the main mechanisms of Grand Theft Auto V, as it has a deep focus on customizations, especially in online mode.

This data was said to be pretty much set in stone, as it has happened before with other games such as Bully and Red Dead Redemption. As it turns out, the list was pretty much accurate.

One rumor about Grand Theft Auto V suggested that it would have virtual breathing animals in-game. On top, it was rumored that players would be able to have pet animals such as dogs. This was received as a fake rumor since it would've been pretty taxing to add so many details on the PS3/360 hardware.

On top, people were thinking it would be too complicated considering the controversial nature of killing animals and PETA. However, at the end of the day, the game did have animals. In fact, a pretty good variety of them.
