The rocket boosters of Grand Theft Auto Online's Pegassi Toreador have a limit to how many times a player can use them while out of water. The vehicle already functions as both a car and submarine, so to prevent it from dominating the skies, GTA Online's developer Rockstar Games limited the boosters with a cooldown period. While in water, the boosters recharge almost immediately, but it takes much longer for them to refill while on land, and they don't refill at all while airborne.

For this reason, Reddit user NuclearJesusMan believed a new glitch he found for the Pegassi Toreador was worth sharing on the r/gtaonline subreddit. Said glitch sees the Pegassi Toreador's rocket boosters working in the air exactly as they would in water, giving players the ability to turn their car into a rocket ship. NuclearJesusMan used it to launch himself into the stratosphere of Los Santos, staying airborne for about four whole minutes. The glitch isn't too unlike how the GTA Online flying vehicle glitch Reddit discovered last year worked.

Precisely how the glitch works remains a mystery, but NuclearJesusMan suspects it has something to do with how the Pegassi Toreador exits the water. The glitch triggered for the player when he used the rocket boosters against an underwater boulder, turning the rock into a ramp that launched him out of the water mid-boost. Because he was mid-boost while breaching, the player believes that GTA Online failed to register he left the water, so it allowed him to continue using the boosters as if he was still a submarine.

It's worth noting that while the comparison was made, this glitch doesn't turn the Pegassi Toreador into a flying car. The rocket's rechargeability only lasts if the player continues in the direction of their launch point. If they try to deviate from that and level out the Toreador, GTA Online will correct itself, and the vehicle's rechargeable rockets will disappear. They'll act as they normally do while in the air, allowing only one charge per jump.

Since Rockstar Games introduced a weaponized, submersible car with the popular Cayo Perico Heist, it should introduce a flying car into Grand Theft Auto, too. Flying cars have been a thing in Grand Theft Auto for a long time now, be it through cheats or glitches. They're a part of Grand Theft Auto's culture, so it would be interesting to see how Rockstar handles an official one.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
