Grand Theft Auto Online has had a lot of expansions over the years, adding everything from significant new heists to flying cars modelled after Back to the Future's iconic time-traveling DeLorean. However, Rockstar has been hyping up the game's next free DLC for quite some time, claiming it'll likely be the biggest addition to the game yet.

Posting a tease today on its official Twitter, Rockstar Games pulled the curtain back slightly on this mysterious GTA Online update, hinting that it could offer a brand new area of Los Santos for players to explore. If the speculation surrounding the tease turns out to be true, this would be the first time Rockstar has expanded the Grand Theft Auto 5 map through its frequent additions to the multiplayer mode.

The tease itself is brief, clocking in at 10 seconds long, but that doesn't mean there's little here to decipher. Cutting rapidly between a series of CCTV images, the trailer showcases what appears to be a new island with its own separate map. The location features a luxurious villa and several large fields, with it definitely not looking like anything seen before in the already-established Los Santos game world. The tease ends by showcasing the body of a dead, naked man lying on Los Santos' beach with a briefcase in the sand beside him. A caption names this man "John Doe," citing that he was last seen at the Los Santos airport and has a know affiliation with "El Rubio."

The entire clip offers a lot of cryptic images to speculate about (as Twitter users have been doing extensively in the comments below the video). The general consensus among many is that the tease is likely for a new heist taking place on the island, with the map pictured during the footage feeling perfectly-sized for an action-packed new co-op mission. Others are wondering whether the area will be more open, offering a number of activities for players to complete.

Regardless, it seems Rockstar is close to revealing whatever this ambitious new Grand Theft Auto 5 expansion is going to be. The last major update released back in August, with the GTA Online Summer Update adding Yachts, playable arcade machines, new clothes, fresh cars, and additional missions. It seems GTA 5's multiplayer component isn't slowing down as the next-generation of games begins, with the title even slated to hit the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X very soon.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions slated to launch in 2021.
