GTA Online's Passive Mode is supposed to protect the player and prevent them from harming anyone, but one player has found a workaround to kill opponents. It's an interesting method that requires a few things, but it seems like anyone can pull it off in the game if they have the necessary prerequisites.

GTA Online's Passive Mode is designed to prevent unwilling players from being targeted. While the mode can help players to avoid being attacked or harmed by others, it also keeps them from actively engaging in combat with others, too, to ensure the playing field is fair. However, with the right weapon and a little creativity, this can be bypassed.

GTA Online player and Reddit user BobRoss10010100 shared the method they've discovered with other users on the site. In a brief gameplay clip, BobRoss10010100 can be seen using the Up-n-Atomizer to launch some debris that's lying on the ground. The debris goes flying through the air and hits another player, launching them into the air and sending them falling to the highway below. The fall damage ultimately kills them, and if it hadn't, a car hitting them shortly after landing probably would have.

Technically speaking, while the GTA Online player set the actions in motion, they didn't do anything that directly harmed their opponent. Presumably, this is why Passive Mode didn't stop this from happening. It's not a method that will work everywhere, and the player will have to shell out some significant GTA$ to buy an Up-n-Atomizer if they don't already have one. However, for anyone that has wished they could take down an opponent while Passive Mode is on, it's an opportunity to do just that.

While Passive Mode shouldn't allow this to happen, it wouldn't be fair to completely ban the use of this weapon in the mode, either. The Up-n-Atomizer is designed to launch things with an energy blast, whether that be another player, an NPC, a car, or a bunch of junk, as seen in the post. However, the Up-n-Atomizer has also saved players numerous times when a car gets stuck. This is especially problematic when players are using delivery vehicles, like in GTA Online's Motorcycle Club drug sales, as a stuck vehicle can destroy all the accumulated product and prevent the player from completing the job.

It's not clear how Rockstar Games could prevent the Up-n-Atomizer from being used this way, and it seems unlikely that any major changes will be made to the weapon. Players will have to watch out for passive users gunning for them with the Up-n-Atomizer, and hope that GTA 6 finds a way to prevent this issue, should the weapon type return.

GTA Online is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
