In Grand Theft Auto Online, everything revolves around the player's bank account. With the successful launch of Los Santos Tuners update in GTA Online, Rockstar is gifting its players some free cash.

GTA Online continues to dominate as one of the perennial multiplayer experiences available today. The optional online component included with Grand Theft Auto 5 allows players to create their own characters and engage with other players in missions (or mayhem) throughout Los Santos. Like real life though, to obtain desirable items—lucrative vehicles, weapons, cosmetics, and many other items—it comes back to how much money the player has. While there are ways to make fast money in GTA Online, Rockstar giving its players some free money is never a bad thing either.

Rockstar Games announced in a recent tweet that players who log into GTA Online this week, from July 23 to August 1, will receive a free deposit of $250,000. According to the tweet, the launch of Los Santos Tuners saw the greatest turnout of players of any GTA Online update to date. A follow up tweet by Rockstar Support clarifies that money will not be available right away but delivered to players' accounts within 72 hours of their logging in. There are many auto shops to obtain in GTA Online, and they are all not very cheap, so this will be a much appreciated gesture to many.

The Los Santos Tuners update was only announced on July 15, so to see such an outpouring of player support is quite impressive. Plenty of new content came in the update, primarily centered around the game's car mechanics and racing scene. There is a new social space called the Los Santos Car Meet that allows players to join up and show off their customized rides; as players continue to participate here and in the other events added by the update, players' reputations will increase and thusly, unlock a variety of new features and other customization options for their cars. With a handful of new cars added to GTA Online, Los Santos Tuners is an update that encourages player expression and interaction.

Unfortunately, Rockstar's tweet does not provide any sort of metric data as to the player counts for the Los Santos Tuners update. It is interesting that this car-centered update received the greatest player support of any GTA Online update over the more ambitious, action-oriented ones like 2019's The Diamond Casino Heist. This suggests, in part, that players are generally more interested in the driving and exploration mechanics of the game, over its gunplay, heist-planning missions. That is the beautiful thing about GTA Online though, players are free to do whatever they like, whether that be a menace to society or lend a helping hand.

Grand Theft Auto Online is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
