Rockstar Games is offering Grand Theft Auto Online players a hefty $500,000 in game reward simply for signing up for two step verification. The process is simple and the reward is doled out instantly, and since adding this verification simply increases the security of one's account, it makes little sense not to do so.

Grand Theft Auto Online has given out free in game money before, so this is not a particularly shocking, but the large sum associated with such a simple task is a rather nice treat to those players that are using the game to cope with self isolation guidelines.

More and more games are reporting breaches to accounts lately, so the decision to add two step verification is likely not coincidental. Overall, it is better to be safe than sorry, and the reward of $500,000 should only act to incentivize players to make this already smart decision.

Luckily for players, adding two step verification to one's Rockstar Social Club account is incredibly easy. First, simply navigate to the Rockstar Social Club and log in. From here, select the drop down menu labeled account located in the upper right hand corner of the screen. If players haven't done so yet, they will need to link their Rockstar Social Club account to their PSN account or Xbox Gamertag, and then a two step verification tab will appear in the linked accounts header. After clicking on this, a set of instructions will guide the user on how to set this up, taking five minutes at most.

This change is largely in response to a glitch which allowed players to receive a previous $500,000 in game cash for free multiple times. As a result of this glitch, some players were able to collect millions of dollars just by logging in over and over again. The introduction of two step verification will not only help to secure accounts but will prevent this sort of abuse from occurring again, so two step verification may be required to receive log in bonuses in the future as well.

Players would do well to get two step verification worked out on their accounts now, as it is sure to be a factor in future log in bonuses as well. Given the relative ease and quickness of the task, there is little excuse not to do so for avid Grand Theft Auto: Online players. Just think of what could be bought with $500,000.
