There’s a lot one can do in Grand Theft Auto Online, as well as a lot one can buy in order to do even more things. Of course, this means players have to be mindful of how much in-game cash they have and figure out how to earn some more before they splurge on things like absurdly expensive supercars. Money isn’t free in GTA Online, except when it is.

GTA Online may have launched all the way back in 2013, but the multiplayer counterpart to Grand Theft Auto 5 has only gotten more popular with time, bug fixes, and added content. In fact, Rockstar Games announced this week that December 2019, which saw the launch of the Diamond Casino & Resort DLC, was the most popular month the game has ever seen, in terms of both player count and related YouTube views.

As a celebration of these milestones, Rockstar is giving away a huge amount of free virtual money to all players, the latest of GTA Online’s occasional limited-time cash giveaways. From today, January 30, to this Wednesday, February 5, players will receive $1 million just for logging-in. After that, an additional $1 million will be given out for everyone logging in between February 6 and February 12, bringing the grand total to $2 million and making for one of the easiest ways to make money in GTA Online.

And it’s not only GTA Online players who are getting new freebies. A similar promotion is also in effect for everyone who logs in to Rockstar’s other big online title, Red Dead Online, which also saw record player engagement last month. Like GTA Online, this is taking place in two week-long stages, with players receiving free weapons and hundreds of bullets during the first week, followed by a free bounty hunter license, bolas, and arrows during the second week.

“With two distinct worlds now alive and thriving, we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated fanbase that travels with us on this journey as both continue to expand and evolve with new types of gameplay, new stories and much more to experience over the coming year,” Rockstar said. How these games will evolve has yet to be revealed, but Rockstar has suggested that there could be a full year of updates planned for GTA Online throughout 2020.

While that will definitely be good news for those who’ve been enjoying GTA Online and have no plans to quit playing anytime soon, it could be bad news for those waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
