As is the case for the majority of Rockstar Games' titles, the vast open-world of Grand Theft Auto 5 provides venturesome players with a number of secret locations and different activities to deeply immerse themselves into. However, unlike in other areas of the map, the military base is the most bountiful, as it comes loaded with some of Grand Theft Auto 5's most destructive vehicles.

From Vinewood Hills to Raton Canyon, there is a slew of breathtaking locations in Grand Theft Auto 5 that play a big part in making the game such a timeless yet classic experience. This is because the unique and interesting locales provide additional untamed content for players who are finished with the story mode. Having said that, very few locations in Los Santos allow players to seize weapons of mass destruction and further unleash upon unsuspecting foes in a fury of lead-slinging and blood-spilling mayhem. Fortunately, Fort Zancudo is here to fill those devilishly debauched needs.

What Is Fort Zancudo In GTA 5?

For the uninitiated, Fort Zancudo is a U.S. military facility in Grand Theft Auto 5 that is joint-operated by the Army, the Marine Corps, and the Air Force. Not only is it the sole army base in the game, but it's the only stronghold in the entire Grand Theft Auto HD Universe so far.

The outside of the complex is rather scarce as, besides the fence, only a couple of water storage tanks and machinery can be found. However, the inside of Fort Zancudo features one main airstrip, a secondary airstrip, three enormous hangars, several smaller hangars, rows of blockhouses, an Air Traffic Control tower, and depots for the many vehicles on-site.

One of the best areas in Grand Theft Auto 5, Fort Zancudo is located on the outskirts of the Lago Zancudo swamps and at the base of Mount Josiah in Blaine County, San Andreas. Besides being by the Zancudo River that lies towards the south, the large Route 1 highway also passes underneath the base and rests on the west.

How To Get In Fort Zancudo In GTA 5

To put it bluntly, one cannot simply walk into Zancudo as the grounds are patrolled by Rhino tanks, trucks, and crusaders. Even those who penetrate its high, anti-scale fencing will be met with an immediate four-star wanted level, plus a ballad of bullets and bombs aimed in their direction. But before all hope is lost, there are some neat tricks and methods in Grand Theft Auto 5 that can be used to gain access to the base.

The most convenient method involves piloting an aircraft and skydiving into the base. While this straightforward approach can be achieved using any of Grand Theft Auto 5's planes, Fort Zancudo's local airspace is guarded by P-996 LAZER fighter jets which have clearance to shoot down any aircraft not authorized to pass through.

The toughest yet more survivable method in Grand Theft Auto 5 is done by driving a vehicle and jumping a ramp over the fence to land inside the base. Although, it should be noted that this "ramp" is just a conveniently placed cliff incline at the highway tunnel exit near Mount Chiliad. Regardless of the method, players fast enough can pinch a jet or a tank and use it to wreak absolute havoc on Los Santos.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
