As a game that has been out for multiple years across different platforms, Grand Theft Auto 5 is full of features. One of the most creative options in GTA 5 is the Director Mode, which gives players full control over the game world. This mode is available on PC and console, but it may not be immediately clear how to access the function.

With significant freedom to manipulate characters, objects, and even weather, players are able to put their creativity to the test using Director Mode. Since Director Mode released back in 2015, fans have utilized the feature to make cinematic stories and videos set in the world of GTA 5.

Rockstar Games makes it pretty simple to enter the mode and start creating. The easiest ways are to access Director Mode from either the Rockstar Editor menu or the Interaction menu. However, if already in game, players can still jump into the mode without much effort. Just boot up the mobile phone from any of GTA 5's protagonists and select the contact "Acting Up." Keep in mind, if in a mission, driving a vehicle, or on the run from the law, Director Mode will not be accessible.

Now that the feature has been opened up, players will need to select a single actor from a host of various categories. These include anything from animals to military personnel, and even online characters. From there, the world is the player's oyster, and a bunch of different options can change around. For instance, setting times of day or weather effects to create a specific atmosphere. Users can activate classic GTA 5 cheats like Explosive Melee or Super Jump to add flair to their cinematic masterpieces.

One thing to note is that Director Mode does have limitations. Primarily, random events and minigames are unavailable while playing around with it, so players should not expect to make any hunting videos either. Unfortunately, certain side characters from the main game are also not a part of the mode. Recognizable faces like Clay Simmons or Lester Crest will not appear, to name a few. Even with these restrictions, this feature is perfect for fans looking to interact with the Grand Theft Auto 5 world after beating the game. As an option easily available, Director Mode offers a great way for players to flex their creativity.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions in development.
