For many players, a big part of what makes the Grand Theft Auto series so enjoyable is being able to tear through the streets of a well-designed city in a ridiculously fast car. This has been true of the franchise since its humble beginnings on the PlayStation 1 all the way back in 1997, although the experience undoubtedly became a lot more realistic with the release of Grand Theft Auto 3.

More than two decades on, and the release of Grand Theft Auto 3's definitive edition brings with it yet another chance to ride through the streets of Liberty City at breakneck speeds. In order to do that, however, players will first need a car that's capable of satisfying their need for speed. Those looking for the fastest cars in GTA 3 will have to do a little digging, but, once they know where to look, this shouldn't take them too long.

Kuruma

GTA Online players will likely recognize the Kuruma as one of several vehicles that were added to the game as part of the Heists Update. The version found in GTA 3 is not quite as sleek as its modern-day counterpart, but still looks pretty sharp for a compact sedan. This is because its design borrows heavily from the 2001-2006 Chrysler Sebring, which, like the Kuruma, is fairly quick off the mark.

Where to Find a Kuruma in GTA 3

Unlike some of the other fast cars in Grand Theft Auto 3, the Kuruma is incredibly common, making it a fairly easy vehicle to track down. They can be spotted in parking lots all over Portland, or driving around on any one of the game's three main islands. It's probably not worth going out of one's way for, but if ever players find themselves stranded without a ride, hopping into a Kuruma is rarely a bad option.

Diablo Stallion

In terms of design, the Stallion bears a striking reminiscence to some of the classic 2-door Oldsmobiles from the late sixties and early seventies. It's a firm favorite of the Diablos gang, who can often be found driving around in specially modified versions of the vehicle. These souped-up muscle cars are not only known for their improved looks, but also their increased speed.

Those hoping to get their hands on a Diablo Stallion will need to make their way over to Hepburn Heights on Portland Island, where they should have very little trouble spotting one of these unique-looking rides. Of course, they may have to deal with the car's owner before they can take it for a spin, so should definitely come prepared for a fight.

FBI Car

gta-3-fastest-cars-fbi-car

The FBI Car shares many similarities with the Kuruma, which, as mentioned above, was inspired by the Chrysler Sebring. Where the two vehicles differ, however, is in both their speed and color, with the FBI car being a little faster and only being available in black. It also allows players to initiate vigilante missions, as is the case with all law enforcement vehicles in GTA 3.

FBI Cars will start to show up once Claude has a five-star wanted level, meaning that players will need to draw out their occupants before being able to get inside. After completing the Emergency vehicles list at the Portland Docks Import/Export garage, however, players will be able to get one delivered whenever they like.

Borgnine

The Borgnine is named after actor Ernest Borgnine, who once played a cab driver named Cabbie in Escape from New York. The vehicle itself is inspired by the Checker Marathon; the same four-door sedan that Borgnine drove during the movie and a former favorite of New York taxi drivers during the sixties and seventies.

Players can find the Borgnine parked outside Borgnine Taxis in the Harwood area of Portland Island. Unfortunately, however, it won't show up until after players have completed 100 taxi fares, which can be initiated by triggering the taxi driver vehicle mission while driving a regular cab. Though time-consuming, this can be a great way to earn some extra money.

Stinger

The Stinger is one of the most iconic cars in the Grand Theft Auto universe and has been around since the series' very first installment. The 2-door roadster's design has changed quite a bit in the two and a half decades since it made its debut, however, with the GTA 3 iteration heavily inspired by the 1996 Porsche Boxster.

Players can find Stingers being driven around on the game's second and third islands. They'll also find some parked near houses and mansions, particularly those located in the Cedar Grove area of Shoreside Vale. There's a special Yakuza variant of the car available too, which players will come across in numerous locations on Staunton Island.

Police Car

The Police Car borrows its design from the Chevrolet Caprice and the Ford Crown Victoria, both of which once served as police vehicles across the United States. Its LCPD markings are incredibly reminiscent of the ones found on LAPD vehicles, which, given their connection to the city that inspired GTA 3's setting, should perhaps come as little surprise.

Rather than wasting time trying to find a parked Police Car, it's far easier for players to commit a few minor crimes and then sit back and wait for a Police Car to find them. Of course, this does mean dealing with the officers inside before taking the vehicle, so players might just want to head to a police station and jack one from the parking lot instead.

Mafia Sentinel

The Sentinel is certainly no slouch, but when up against its tuned-up Mafia variant, there really is no comparison when it comes to speed. The Mafia Sentinel also comes exclusively in gray and features tinted front windows for extra privacy. Other than that though, the two vehicles look all but identical, with both borrowing their designs from the BMW E36 3 Series.

Players will be able to find a couple of Mafia Sentinels outside Salvatore's Gentleman's Club and another parked up in the Saint Mark's area nearby. They'll also encounter them during and after various missions, though, as with other gang cars, may have to deal with the vehicles' angry owners before taking them.

Banshee

gta3-fastest-cars-banshee

The Banshee is another series staple that has been around since the very beginning of GTA's 3D era. The GTA 3 iteration resembles a Dodge Viper; a vehicle which, like the Banshee, is renowned for its speed and rapid acceleration. It may not be the fastest car in Grand Theft Auto 3, but it really isn't too far behind and is a lot easier to get ahold of than some of the game's other supercars.

Where to Find a Banshee in GTA 3

Finding a Banshee on the game's first island can be a little tricky, but is far from impossible. They're a lot more common on Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale, however, and, like some of the game's other fast cars, can be found parked outside both Kenji's Casino and Asuka's apartment in the latter region.

Cheetah

grand-theft-auto-3-fastest-cars-cheetah

Based loosely on the Ferrari Testarossa, the Cheetah is arguably the best-looking car in GTA 3. It's also one of the most enjoyable to drive, with a ridiculously high top speed and handling that Enzo himself would almost certainly have been proud of. Unfortunately, however, finding a Cheetah is not quite as easy as driving one.

Where to Find a Cheetah in GTA 3

Though Cheetahs can occasionally be found driving around, they're incredibly hard to come by when compared with some of the other cars in the game. The best way to find one is therefore to head over to the Cedar Grove area of Shoreside Vale, where players will be able to find one parked outside a Cartel mansion.

Infernus

gta3-fastest-cars-infernus

Since making its debut in GTA 3, the Infernus has gone on to appear in every GTA game apart from Advance. More often than not, it serves as the fastest car in the game; something that was true when it made its series debut more than two decades ago. Inspired by the Jaguar XJR-15 and the XJ220, this sleek and streamlined vehicle is capable of reaching some truly frightening speeds.

Where to Find an Infernus in GTA 3

Surprisingly, perhaps, it's actually a little easier to come by an Infernus than it is a Cheetah, despite the former being the faster of the two cars. They can occasionally be found driving around the streets of Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale, as well as in the parking lot near Francis International Airport.
