Obsidian Entertinament surprise survival game Grounded is available now in Early Access for PC and Xbox One players. The experience centers around kids who have shrunk down and are trying to survive the many dangers in a normal backyard.

As a survival game, players will need to manage resource meters like their hunger or thirst as well as keep the dangers of larger bugs at bay. Crafting is also a key component of Grounded, letting players collect items and materials in order to utilize them in different ways. Players can build structures, weapons, armor, and tools like axes to assist in resource collection.

However, one of the most important items that can be crafted is the Workbench. Here's everything Grounded players need to know.

How to Make a Workbench

Thankfully, getting access to a workbench isn't too difficult, but there's a few things that need to happen first. Right off the bat, the Workbench requires 3 Grass Planks, 4 Sprigs, and 2 Sap in order to create it.

Sprigs are fairly common in the game. When exploring the backyard, sprigs are essentially smaller shoots of grass that have not matured yet. They can be collected nearly everywhere grass is found.

Sap is commonly associated with trees, so while it's not as common as sprigs, players should be able to find it near twigs, sticks, or branches. Make sure to fully examine the piece of wood as the sap can be stuck nearly anywhere on it. Sometimes more than one piece of sap can be found on a single piece of wood. On rare occasions Sap can also be found on the ground.

Finally, the grass planks may be the toughest part of this recipe. The big reason is that grass planks cannot be harvested without an axe. So players will need to first make an axe, which requires 3 sprigs, 2 pebblets, and 1 woven fiber. Once that is made, equip the axe and chop down a normal blade of grass. Once it breaks, the Grass Plank can be picked up. Unlike the other items in this recipe, a grass plank is too large to be put in the inventory so players can only carry them. Pick up three at a time and as long as the rest of the materials are in the backpack, the crafting menu will make the workbench available under the Utilities menu.

What Does a Workbench Do?

Selecting the Workbench allows the player to place the item wherever they want but why is this item so important? The Workbench is where players can make higher quality items like armor and weapons. Naturally, this is important for progression in Grounded as better gear lets players take on more difficult enemies. Spears, bows and arrows, as well as other higher grade tools can all be made through the workbench.

Grounded is set to launch in 2021 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Early Access is available now for Game Pass subscribers.
