In Grounded, players have to collect a lot of materials to be able to survive. The children will need those materials to build their defenses, make armor and weapons, and build and upgrade the Grounded kids' tools, like an axe and a hammer.

Tools in Grounded

Grounded is the new survival beta game from Obsidian. In this game, players are children that have been shrunk down and have to survive all the bugs that live in their backyard. To do so, players have to survive a spider-filled jump scare as well as building, defending, fighting, and making sure everyone has enough to eat and drink. In order to do it, players will have to make both an axe and a hammer and upgrade them with some very difficult to find parts.

Upgrade to Tier 2

In order to upgrade the Pebblet Hammer to the Insect Hammer, players will need to get one boiling gland, four stinkbug parts, and craft four berry leather.  Some of the pieces needed for these upgrades are very dangerous to get, so players will need the best armor possible to bring along for the ride.

For the first step, players will have to make a Pebblet Hammer, which requires three sprigs, four Pebblet, and crafting one woven fiber. Next, players will need to kill some Stinkbugs by the big rake to get four stinkbug parts. Stinkbugs leak poison from their bodies that damages players, so be sure to be armored and ready for this attack. Next, kill some Bombardier Beetles also near the big rake to grab the one boiling gland.

Last, players will need to bring their hammer down to the southeastern-most part of the map near the house to grab the berry chunks to make berry leather. Three chunks are needed to make every piece of leather, so make sure to chop enough of the berries. But look out for orb spiders which haunt this area. Once all the ingredients have been collected, players will need to bring them back to the all-important workbench for the Grounded crew.

With the insect hammer, players can break the mint in the Ice Caps Mint Container and use the pieces to make the level three Mint Mallet.

Upgrade to Hammer Tier 3

The Mint Mallet requires the Insect Hammer to break the mints in the container and get five mint parts. Players then need eight flower petals of any color and nine spidersilk. Spidersilk can be taken from spiders of any size. Thankfully, if players are afraid of spiders, they can turn on arachnophobia mode to help tone down how creepy they look. Flower petals can be found in the north, by the pond. The petals can be collected off of the ground or use arrows to knock down some petals from the flower buds.

Upgrade to Axe Tier 2

In order to upgrade the basic axe to the Insect Axe in Grounded, players will need one ladybug head, three bombardier parts, and four more spidersilk. The spidersilk can be gathered from spiders of any size, and the bombardier parts can be collected while players try to grab the boiling glad.

Ladybugs are all over the yard, and are passive unless attacked first. So players should be able to find one pretty easily. Killing it, however, will be much more difficult, as the ladybugs are armored and have some big attacks. Ducking and weaving is the best way to stay alive in this battle. While ladybugs might seem harmless in real life, to the shrunken kids of Grounded, these bugs will be massive and well-armored.

Grounded is launching in 2021 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Early Access is available now for Game Pass subscribers.
