Obsidian Entertainment continues to stay busy with numerous projects currently in various stages of development. While fans are no doubt curious over some of its bigger projects like Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, two games which continue to be mostly a mystery to players, Obsidian has also not shied away from taking on smaller projects as well. In fact, during the Xbox and Bethesda showcase, Obsidian announced another new title named Pentiment led by game director Josh Sawyer based around manuscript art and woodcut prints.

The showcase also gave Obsidian a chance to update fans on its early access title Grounded as well. Initially revealed and launched back in 2020, the multiplayer survival title has been constantly changing and evolving through the Game Preview program. In addition to bug fixes and smaller improvements, Obsidian has also released 12 content updates for Grounded as well like Shroom and Doom, Hot and Hazy, and much more. New narrative quests, items, enemies, and gameplay features have continued to push the game forward, closer to its full release.

Thankfully, Obsidian answered those questions at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase through a new trailer which confirmed that Grounded will be launching in full this coming September. The trailer gave hints at the game's overarching story as well as showcased more bug smashing gameplay. The friendly robot BURG.L gives some oversight to the core mechanics of crafting, survival, and combat.

A blog post followed the launch reveal providing even more details to this major Grounded update. According to Obsidian, version 1.0 not only includes the full story, but plenty of fresh content for players. This includes a brand-new section of the world known as the upper yard that contains new armor and weapon recipes to discover as well as a highly requested boss creature that the fan base has been requesting: the Mantis. The full game will be available for $39.99 for non-Game Pass users, though interested players can still pick it up at the Early Access price of $29.99 for the time being.

Though unconventional from a studio like Obsidian, Grounded has certainly found an audience while helping Microsoft to diversify its lineup of games. In fact, Grounded could be seen as a peer to another Xbox sandbox title, Sea of Thieves. While both games feature different themes, they have each gone on a similar journey of continued updates and improvements after their initial launch. In fact, both games have seen a resurgence in players and popularity thanks to their sandbox style gameplay and the continued support that the developers have given them.

Grounded is available now in Early Access for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and will fully launch September 2022.
