Obsidian Entertainment is continuing to add new features and functions to its latest project, Grounded. To that end, the company launched a brand new update not all that long ago called Doom & Shroom. While this update brought several new features, one of the more interesting ones is the ability for players to cultivate pets that will then be their companions throughout the rest of the gameplay. However, there is a specific way and some particular bugs that can actually be made pets in Grounded.

The first thing to know about getting a pet in Grounded is that there are only two different bugs that fit the bill in this regard. Users can either tame wild Aphids or Weevils and turn them into erstwhile companions. Both of these creatures have been in the game since the beginning, and they've both been non-hostile. Now players can take these little bugs from antipathy to friendship if the right steps are followed.

Before players have the ability to have an actual pet in their Grounded base, they'll need to create a potential food source. That means for the weevils, players will need to create some mushroom slurry, and for the aphids, they'll need to produce some plant slurry. To do this, users must first set up a Grounded grinder station and then grab the right ingredients to feed the potential pets long enough to win over their trust and devotion. For mushrooms, this means grounding down any kind of fungi but toadstool. For the plant slurry, players can grab any kind of plant fiber found around the backyard.

Grounded Shroom And Doom Update

Once the slurries have been created, the next task is to actually get the aphid or weevil to eat the tasty treat. There's a bit of strategy involved in this, as both bugs will be wary of people walking up to them in the backyard. Once the bugs have been lured to the food and then eaten two slurries, a white aura will appear around them. This means that a Grounded character can now interact with the bugs.

Once the white aura appears, there is one more step to taming them. After the weevil or aphid has been tamed in Grounded, it's time to walk over and pet them. This signifies a player wants to be friends.

The final step in getting a bug pet is to build them a house using two weed stems, one acorn shell, four mushroom bricks, and two crow feathers. Once players have collected all these materials, they can construct the house, assign the weevil or aphid to it, and have themselves a Grounded pet.

Grounded is out now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
