One of Xbox Game Studios' most-curious upcoming projects is Grounded, a first-person adventure/survival game. Set in a back yard at the scale of ants and grass blades, Grounded is a marked shift for a studio best known for epic fantasy and sci-fi. Obsidian will have to prove Grounded's something special, which is exactly what it plans to do.

Obsidian announced on Thursday that it will be taking part in the Steam Game Festival portion of the Summer Game Fest. The festival part of the Summer Game Fest involves developers releasing dozens of game demos on both PC and Xbox One. A single-player demo for Grounded will be one of the festival's games.

This means that players will have two different opportunities to try Grounded. Starting June 9, both the Xbox Insider flight of testing and the Steam Game Festival demo will start. The demo will be available through June 14. Those hoping to play on Xbox One should register now to be an Xbox Insider and download the Xbox Insider Hub in preparation. Note that slots for the Xbox Insider flight are limited, so be quick to download on June 9. Steam users don't have to worry, in that regard.

All that Obsidian is willing to say about the demo is that it's a "tiny taste of the single-player experience." Since Grounded will primarily be a multiplayer game, the demo may seem surprisingly limited. Regardless, it should be good for potential Groudned players to see if the game is for them.

Grounded releases in Early Access on July 28 on PC and Xbox One.
