In September of 2019, developer Spiders released GreedFall, an action-adventure game set in a fictional 17the century inspired fantasy setting. Although the game wasn't as popular as other titles in the same genre, the very Dragon Age-esque GreedFall is still considered a success after Spiders revealed that it sold one million copies in a year, especially since it contains a similar style and gameplay with BioWare's Dragon Age.

Spiders also revealed last year that GreedFall would be released to the PS5 and Xbox Series X alongside additional content that will allow veteran players on the latest generation of console gaming to experience something new in the game. Unfortunately, exact details such as the release date and what the new content brings to the table are still being kept under wraps. However, the release of GreedFall on the PS5 and Xbox Series X is definitely a step in the right direction for Spiders, given that it will establish the studio to a whole new generation of gamers, especially in preparation for its upcoming game.

GreedFall on the PS5 and Xbox Series X Would Establish Spiders For a New Generation

Greedfall Siora

It is worth noting that GreedFall is not the first game developed by Spiders. Before GreedFall's release, Spiders is the studio behind other titles such as The Technomancer, Bound by Flame, and Testament of Sherlock Holmes. For those unfamiliar with Spiders and GreedFall, the game revolves around an island paradise that contains magic and monsters, which was recently discovered by several colonial forces. Given the unique magic found on the island, these forces are fighting to take control of the island, and the player assumes the role of a human noble called De Sardet who can either ally with any of the foreign nations trying to take over or with the natives who are protecting their land.

On paper, GreedFall's plot and setting contains all the formula for a successful action-adventure RPG. However, it found itself in tight competition with other similar triple-A games such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Red Dead Redemption 2, and a whole lot of other titles. Now, given that GreedFall is set to release on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, Spiders has the opportunity to introduce GreedFall to more players once again, especially now that games on the PS5 and Xbox Series X are still limited, apart from titles eligible for backward compatibility. Given the right marketing campaign, the release of GreedFall on the new generation of consoles could establish Spiders as a developer to look out for, especially now that the studio is working on a new game.

GreedFall on the PS5 and Xbox Series X Could Prepare Players For SteelRising

Spiders Steelrising

In July of 2019, Spiders unveiled SteelRising, which is its upcoming action-adventure game that is currently in development for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Based on the preview trailer alone, it appears that SteelRising would be another underrated success from Spiders, similar to GreedFall when it was first released in 2018. However, now that Spiders is releasing GreedFall to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the developers now have the opportunity to impress players and showcase what their studio is made of to prepare players for the upcoming release of SteelRising.

Should GreedFall on the PS5 and Xbox Series X reach massive popularity, it would open the door for more players to purchase SteelRising when it is eventually launched. This could also lead to Spiders getting more recognition in the video game community, allowing its future projects to directly compete with other triple-A games such as Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed, and more, on the new generation of console and PC gaming.

GreedFall is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X enhanced versions in development.
