Releasing last year to mixed reviews, GreedFall stands as the most recent game by French developer Spiders, the team behind The Technomancer, Bound by Flame, and The Testament of Sherlock Holmes. Although it didn't set the world alight with critics, a number of RPG fans did take to the game following its release, citing its unique 17th century fantasy world and engaging story that set it apart as an ambitious diamond in the rough.

It seems the game has managed to pull in a decent following since its debut last year, with Spiders announcing today that the game has shipped one million copies. In accordance with this milestone, the team has announced that the game will be making the leap to the next-generation, hitting PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the future.

Spiders did not go into detail about when players will be able to return to the world of GreedFall, or what exactly will change in its next-gen port. The studio did, however, hint that the update will bring some additional content to the table, meaning players returning to the game will have something new to dive into on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Although not explicitly announced, it seems likely the game will also come with visual updates worthy of both consoles' more powerful hardware.

For those who didn't get a chance to play GreedFall last year, the game follows De Sardet: A noble venturing out with his kingdom to colonize the magical island of Teer Fradee in hopes of discovering a cure to a mysterious illness. While there, it becomes clear that the kingdom is encroaching on the ancient lands of the island's natives and a series of neighboring countries who are also vying to establish dominance on Teer Fradee. The player must make their way across the island, forge alliances, and make impactful choices that will affect the future of the magical land.

The game included a particularly unique mix of 17th century locals and fantasy, with critics largely praising the setting in spite of the title's gameplay being deemed uninspiring. It will be interesting to see what Spiders adds to the game in its PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X debut, whether that includes significant new quests for players to complete or just some new items and armor to collect. Regardless, it seems fans will know more in the coming months, with Spiders advising them to "stay tuned."

GreedFall is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X enhanced versions in development.
