For players who have not heard of Greedfall, the name doesn't conjure a very clear picture. For those in the know however, Greedfall manifests as one of the best games many players missed in 2019.

Taking place in a fantasy colonial setting, Greedfall follows the machinations of an invading empire against the natives of the invaded island and its mystic guardians. The story and quests of this RPG take players across the land, giving them options to be as greedy as the title suggests or to try and bring peace. Sometimes, however, the player must be a peacemaker on a smaller scale, such as the Charlatan quest. Here's what can happen in, and how to complete, Greedfall's Charlatan quest.

Starting the Quest

Players will find out about the Charlatan quite readily during the main quest and tasked with dealing with him. The Charlatan in question is busy hawking his miracle potion to an eager crowd, proving that snake oil sells just as well in a fantasy setting. Players should know before starting Greedfall that dialogue won't solve everything, and that's true here. After asking some prying questions about the potion, the Charlatan will shoo the player off.

Players must swing around the nearby corner and into the yard behind the Charlatan's stall. There they will find a vial of his potion and (after fighting some guard thugs), players can ask him to drink it before his customers. The Charlatan will flee the scene, although players don't see him run.

The Twist

Follow the Charlatan to his room at the inn just across from his stall. Here's where the twist is revealed: the Charlatan is a real Alchemist, but was chased out of his order for speaking against unethical experiments. Now the player must choose to arrest him for his crimes or to let him escape. Arresting him grants reputation with the Bridge Alliance and requires no further effort from the player. It's certainly easier than later quests like getting the Warrior King Armor.

However, helping him flee is the better choice in the long run. To do so, players must disperse the angry crowd outside. This can be done by getting them \ healing potions, fighting them, or having enough Intuition. No special clothes like the Naut Disguise will help, but in truth, they're not needed. For your trouble, the Alchemist pays 80 gold coins and, if the player covers for his escape when reporting the task done, they can keep their reputation with the Bridge Alliance.

GreedFall is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
