The last year has been a roller-coaster ride of emotions for Grand Theft Auto players who prefer to do their gaming on PCs. There was no official word on a port of GTA5 for a long time and even after it was finally announced, rumors that it might be cancelled still managed to give the PC elite a scare last week. Despite the drama surrounding last year's multiple Game of the Year award winner, the PC modding community is still hard at work making 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV more stunning than ever.

Mods are nothing new to the world of PC gamers and players just need to look at the laundry list of Skyrim mods to see how insane the custom skins can get. The GTA franchise has seen some amazing mods over the years as well, including the console GTA5 mod that gave players the power to sink Los Santos. Although we  have to wait for the currently unconfirmed release date of the GTA5 PC port to wreak custom havoc on Los Santos, GTA IV players are still busy mashing up the last-gen open-world game with the look and feel of Watch Dogs.

The major GTA IV overhaul, modded by ac.amir and JulioNIB, looks so convincing that at first glance it's hard to tell this isn't Ubisoft's open-world hacking game. The mod doesn't just give the protagonist a sweet leather jacket and hat like Aiden Pearce (cause that would kind of be cool on its own); it actually gives GTA players many of the hacking abilities available in Watch Dogs, as well.

The gameplay footage shows off the new ability to cause car accidents by manipulating traffic lights, activate traffic barriers, and tap the many cameras located throughout Liberty City. Players also have the ability to get rich by hacking ATM machines in true Watch Dogs fashion. If you've played both games, you'll also notice that the classic GTA GUI has been modified to match the layout out the Watch Dogs interface.

Although we should probably take the time to soak in the awesomeness of the GTA IV mod, it's hard not to sit back and imagine what will be possible when modders get their hands on the powerful GTA5 engine. Hopefully, the release date will be confirmed in the near future and we can start to see what kind of craziness the scripters have in store for Los Santos.

Will you be downloading the Watch Dogs mod? What theme mod would you love to see in GTA5? Let us know in the comments.
