Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is one of the most critically-acclaimed and best-selling games of all time. Considered a benchmark in the open world space, many fans are excited for the opportunity to return to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas when it re-releases in a couple of weeks as part of the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy collection. However, that won't be the only new way that fans will get to experience Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Oculus has confirmed that a virtual reality version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for Oculus Quest 2. There's no gameplay footage or other developers available at the time of this writing, but it was confirmed that this Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR project has been in development for years. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas translates to a VR space, but if the developers pull it off, it could be another big reason for VR enthusiasts to bite the bullet and grab themselves an Oculus Quest 2 headset.

It will be interesting to see Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR in action, especially since there are now two distinct art styles for the game. There's the original, blockier art style, as well as the newer, HD graphics seen in the GTA Trilogy version of the game. It's possible that the VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will go in a different direction entirely, so fans should keep that in mind.

It will also be interesting to see if Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR has a first-person viewpoint or if it uses a third-person view. While the original Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas game is third-person, GTA games have had first-person view options in the past, and first-person is usually the ideal viewpoint for virtual reality experiences.

Resident Evil 4 VR just recently launched as an Oculus Quest 2 exclusive, and it swapped the original game's third-person view for a first-person one. While this seems like it would have been a controversial decision, it actually has been embraced by the community, with critics praising how the first-person view and Oculus Touch controls make Resident Evil 4 VR feel like a brand new experience.

It remains to be seen if virtual reality will do something similar for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. There's still a lot to be revealed about the project, but hopefully more information comes soon.
