Rockstar Games took the Grand Theft Auto series to new heights with the release of GTA 3 way back in 2001, and it hasn't looked back since. Recent leaks suggest that Rockstar Games is working on a remastered trilogy, and a new leak just added fuel to the fire.

GTA 3 kicked off a trilogy of revolutionary Grand Theft Auto titles in the 2000s, which included Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. GTA 3 takes place in Liberty City, a location the franchise has returned to since, and it centers around a silent protagonist known as Claude. GTA: Vice City is set in a fictional 1980s Miami, which Rockstar Games deemed Vice City, while GTA: San Andreas fittingly unfolds in a city called San Andreas which is inspired by various California locations.

Recent leaks suggest that the GTA trilogy from the 2000s is being remastered for current-gen consoles and, it looks like there's some validity to the rumors that have circulated since. Known Rockstar Games leaker Videotech_ recently shared some datamining information that they located in the Rockstar PC launcher and a leaker known as GTANet leaked the icons for the games. This new information seems to point towards an upcoming release of the GTA trilogy remaster.

According to Videotech_'s leak, the Rockstar Games launcher has been updated to include specific references to Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Considering these games already exist, it seems as if Rockstar Games is preparing its launcher for a release that's coming soon. Although the leak doesn't confirm that these games are remastered, it does include references to the Unreal Engine, suggesting that GTA trilogy remastered is being rebuilt on the licensed engine.

Videotech_ has confirmed that the strings of code that they have been keeping tabs on have been in the Rockstar Games launcher since September. The leaker stated that they're surprised no one else noticed the hidden details which have been around since before the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC. Ben also claimed that they're surprised at the addition of the new code considering how recently the GTA trilogy remaster was leaked.

While some fans are simply anticipating the upcoming release of GTA trilogy remastered, some Twitter users asked Videotech_ what Rockstar Games is waiting for. One upcoming date that Rockstar Games may be waiting for is October 22, the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 3's release. Some long-time fans of GTA may be looking forward to this upcoming remastered collection, but other fans are still anticipating the confirmation of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available right now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
