Without a doubt, Rockstar Games has more than made a name for itself thanks to several high-profile franchises. Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto are the biggest names of course, but even these were built alongside other successes like L.A. Noire, Midnight Club, and so on. Because of this, it seems Rockstar is all about putting more into RDR and GTA as the company’s most popular titles, yet it’s clear that Red Dead Redemption 3 and Grand Theft Auto 6 are still years away.

Reportedly, however, Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive are working on remastering certain entries in both of these franchises. If the rumored Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy does well, Rockstar will reportedly also develop a Red Dead Redemption 1 Remaster. Not only would these titles give fans something to do in each of these franchises while waiting for the next title, but it would be great to check out these titles amped up for new hardware.

The Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy—which supposedly consists of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas—will be the first big hurdle for Rockstar's new remasters. However, it was first set to release this fall and now recent reports state that it’ll be 2022, sometime after Grand Theft Auto 5: Enhanced and Expanded releases. This sudden change is reason enough to be wary, but thankfully, there is plenty of evidence these do exist outside the initial reports.

New Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy Evidence

There are two key pieces of evidence that suggest development on Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy is underway. The first is that the South Korean ratings board has rated the game, with the official title “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” being leaked alongside that. While ratings aren’t always definitive, they are at least credible evidence that something is out there, and having a proper title is rather convincing too.

The second and most convincing basically comes from Rockstar Games itself. Its launcher was recently updated and datamining found references to GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, despite these games already existing. Through these files, fans also found code pertaining to each game’s logo as well. Theoretically, this could have been done for maintenance or any other reason, but then that timing would be pure coincidence which seems unlikely.

As such, while Rockstar has yet to say anything about it, the Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy seems like a safe bet. It may very well be after GTA 5’s enhanced edition that something about them is revealed officially, but right now, it’s Rockstar’s worst kept secret.

Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy is reportedly in development.
