Grand Theft Auto Online is getting up for a ton of new summer content through a new update that launches today. The Los Santos Summer Special event is Rockstar’s way of adding new summer fun to GTA Online’s massive open world.

Grand Theft Auto Online continues to hook players in, as evidence through the game’s high sale count and massive player base. Now, the Los Santos Summer Special event looks to reward those players with new missions, new vehicles, and new content revolving around yachts.

Grand Theft Auto Online receives updates pretty regularly, and most fans have hardly any complaints about the new content Rockstar adds to the game. While Red Dead Online fans compile bug lists after the recent update, GTA Online players usually don’t have to worry about those problems. At least, hopefully, that won’t be the case now that GTA Online’s Los Santo Summer Special event goes live today for players.

The Los Santos Summer Special event adds 15 new vehicles to the game and new ways to customize those vehicles at mod shops. Additionally, six new co-op missions will be available through Galaxy Superyacht quest line that lets players get a glimpse of what it’s like to be the captain of a massive yacht. There will also be nine new open-wheel tracks and an open-wheel race creator added to the game. Open-wheel races are much different than the GTA Online’s standard racing mode, as it focuses on high-performance race cars and tracks.

GTA Online’s Diamond Casino & Resort is also getting new content in the form of business battles and the Diamond Adversary Series, which brings eight new multiplayer modes to the casino. Alongside the major new content comes smaller content like two brand new arcade cabinets and new collectibles and events throughout the open world. The Los Santos Summer Special update really adds a lot of big and small changes to the GTA Online.

Though all the new content constantly coming to Grand Theft Auto Online is nice to see, some players are wondering if Rockstar can justify bringing GTA Online into the next generation. Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online opened the PS5 showcase to little fanfare, and fans are rightfully wondering if Grand Theft Auto Online is the next major step for the franchise. Unfortunately, only time will tell how Rockstar handles Grand Theft Auto’s transition into the next generation.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, and will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
