Several months ago, the video game developer Rockstar Games brought an incredibly sizable expansion to Grand Theft Auto Online – that is, the multiplayer component to GTA 5 – by adding its Gunrunning update to the game. Now the studio is prepared to bring even more assets to the title by introducing its Smuggler’s Run update by way of a brand new trailer, with the content set to become available on August 29, 2017.
As seen in the trailer below for Grand Theft Auto Online‘s next update, Smuggler’s Run will team players up as business partners with Nervous Ron to help take over his burgeoning smuggling empire, and ardent Rockstar Games fans will notice that the content drop’s name is nod to an early title from the studio’s catalog. In the next update, air corridors have been opened above Los Santos and Blaine County to allow for fresh business ventures with a new range of planes, choppers, and ultralights being the means for transporting criminal cargo across the state.
Grand Theft Auto Online‘s Smuggler’s Run update will offer up a slew of new, customizable aircraft that will work well with any mission along with expansive new hangars in which to stash one’s fleet of planes, helicopters, and aeronautical machines. These new properties are also the headquarters from which players will manage their smuggling businesses, with Nervous Ron being the guiding hand – albeit a shaky one – and the new mechanic Charlie taking care of fans’ aircraft collection.
Furthermore, Rockstar Games has also announced that Transform Races will be taking place sometime this fall, with Grand Theft Auto Online‘s Smuggler’s Run update getting “intricate circuits that demand mastery across air, sea, and land vehicles.”As players cross newly placed checkpoints, their vehicle class will instantly change to match the portion of the course ahead in order to make for dynamic races with challenges that constantly shift.
Finally, Rockstar revealed that it has plenty more planned for the future of Grand Theft Auto Online beyond Smuggler’s Run, with several new four wheeled vehicles coming over the course of the next few weeks, in addition to new competitive Adversary Modes, and holiday celebrations for Halloween and the December holidays too. So, taking all of this into consideration, it seems as if the updates for Grand Theft Auto Online are nowhere close to their once-proposed “rest” period.
Grand Theft Auto Online‘s Smuggler’s Run update releases on August 29, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
