To make things easier for everyone, there are several options most would recommend changing immediately. The game isn't necessarily ruined if players don't change these settings, but it saves a lot of trouble and makes for a smoother time if they are changed. Some of these might depend on personal taste, but one should at least consider looking at them anyway to be sure of what they really want.

6 Turn On Auto-Aim

Grand Theft Auto Online offers varying degrees of aim assist, from hard locking to targets to complete free aim. In the single-player portion, players might want to play in free-aim to feel like they are in total control of the game and the character. However, NPC enemies are far too accurate in online for the game to be fair or fun when playing free-aim. It takes just a couple of seconds out from cover lining up a shot to be gunned down by far-away enemies.

Go to the settings and turn the auto-aim all the way up. While some purists might be against using aim assist, in Grand Theft Auto Online it only evens the playing field. One thing to note, though, is that players need to change the setting first from the single-player menu if they have yet to boot up that portion of the game.

5 Play The Game On Performance Mode

The PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions of Grand Theft Auto online come with several graphics options. One can either play the game at a smooth 60 frames per second or opt for the fidelity mode which offers a higher pixel count and ray tracing. If one does not have a 4K TV, then the performance mode is likely the best option.

For the few people who really do get bothered by the slightly softer image, they might go with 4K. Fortunately, the 30 frames per second option still plays well, and the ray tracing definitely adds a notable sheen to the visuals. Ultimately, 60 frames per second are better for combat and driving as it makes for smoother gameplay.

4 Lock Your Car So It Doesn't Get Stolen

Vehicles are valuable commodities in Los Santos. Though players can steal any old hunk of junk off the street, most are going to invest in their own set of wheels and customize it to their liking. The last thing players want is for it to be stolen by someone else. Fortunately, it is easy to make it so strangers cannot steal personal vehicles.

Simply go to the pop-up menu and find the option for vehicles. From here, players can adjust who has the right to drive and even get inside the car. Just remember, this does not stop other players from blowing up the vehicle with explosives.

3 Turn Off Notifications

As previously mentioned, Grand Theft Auto Online is full of things to do, and the game constantly reminds players of this. It grows annoying seeing so many notifications pop up on the screen and getting the same calls constantly about a new job.

It is one thing for those who are aimlessly wandering around the city, but it is a nuisance to those who already have their mind set on something. Go to the settings and adjust the notifications to be either turned off completely or significantly alleviated.

2 Turn Off The Adaptive Triggers

Those who have played Grand Theft Auto Online for years are already used to certain aspects of the gameplay. They might not always like when something new is added to the formula. The PS5 version adds a few features from the DualSense controller such as the adaptive triggers.

Some players might not be too enamored with the feedback the controller gives them now. For anybody feeling this way, just head to the settings menu and turn them off. Many will already know how they feel about adaptive triggers from their experience using them in other shooters.

1 Change The Reticle

Rockstar games always have a tiny little circle as their default reticle. Even though auto-aim helps easily line up shots, it isn't always easy to see the small dot. This is why it is good to head to the settings menu and make the reticle bigger or change it up entirely.

At least white is a pretty rare color on the sunny and bright Los Santos streets, so its plain color does not camouflage it like it would in a snowy environment. All the same, it helps to have a bigger target to focus on so players know exactly where they are shooting.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
