During a recent earnings call, Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive explained that although Red Dead Redemption 2 will surely garner loads of attention when it launches later this year, CEO Strauss Zelnick assured fans and investors that it wouldn't impact support for Grand Theft Auto Online's regular updates. Now, in a move that looks to be preparing players of the multiplayer component to GTA5 for yet another big content drop, Rockstar is offering fans free in-game money under the premise of the game celebrating tax season refunds.

According to a press release from Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto Online's fictional San Andreas Treasury Department will be delivering a stimulus package for all players on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The funds can be acquired by logging into GTA Online between now and February 26, which will qualify fans for $250,000 of in-game cash. Unfortunately, though, the money won't show up immediately in players' cash deposits, as the stimulus package will be injected into fans' Maze Bank accounts sometime between February 27 and March 6.

In addition to the free virtual dough for simply logging into Grand Theft Auto Online, Rockstar has also begun a promotion that takes any in-game cash players spend from now until February 26 and offers a 10% refund on the dollars spent. For example, those who shell out $100,000 will get $10,000 back in the bank. There is a cap, however, for the most that fans can earn back through this promotion is $1 million. The refund will be delivered on February 27.

For those unaware, Grand Theft Auto 5 was the most lucrative game of 2017, which was due in no small part to GTA Online's continual updates and content drops designed to keep players engaged with the title. While Rockstar and Take-Two have stated in the past that it would rest updates for the online component of Grand Theft Auto 5 at some point in the future, with GTA Online now offering fans a tidy sum of cash for doing nothing more than logging into the game, and with the title still earning boatloads of bread, it doesn't look like developers are anywhere close to stopping.

Grand Theft Auto Online can be played through Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
