Grand Theft Auto Online has been a major success for Rockstar over the past few years, as the base GTA 5 game continues to sell well even seven years after its initial release. Even now, GTA Online is getting a new heist through the Cayo Perico update, which is supposed to be a major update for the online game.

However, not every single Grand Theft Auto fan is in love with the GTA Online experience. Recently, popular Twitch streamer Shroud gave his thoughts on Grand Theft Auto Online and why he thinks the game was a “flop” for him.

Shroud has never been one to shy away from criticizing games that he has played on his channel. In October, Shroud criticized Black Ops Cold War and the way the game handles scorestreaks. He’s also voiced his complaints with titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Destiny. In a recent stream, Shroud shared some of his grievances with the GTA Online experience, explaining that the game went in a direction that he wasn’t interested in after a certain point. Shroud attributes this to the game turning into an “open-word grief sandbox.”

Of course, Shroud is not alone in this opinion, despite the overall popularity of Grand Theft Auto 5. There are plenty of Grand Theft Auto fans and community members who feel like GTA Online is a bit of a mess in a lot of areas, or who feel the game simply lost its appeal after a while. However, Shroud isn’t opposed to revisiting an online GTA experience in the future. The streamer goes on to share some of his hopes for whenever Grand Theft Auto 6 eventually releases, saying, “I’d love to see GTA 6 care about the modding community and work together on a united front.”

Unfortunately for fans ready to move on from GTA 5 and GTA Online, it seems like GTA 6 is still a ways off from release. Fans really don’t know much about GTA 6 at all, as rumors surrounding the game continue to circulate around the internet without ever coming to fruition. Rockstar has also had some internal shakeups that have most likely impacted the development of GTA 6 in some key ways. In the meantime, Rockstar continues to bolster its current online experiences through GTA Online and Red Dead Online.

GTA Online’s Cayo Perico Heist just got a brand new trailer that makes the new content look very promising. Additionally, Rockstar just officially released a standalone version of Red Dead Online in hopes to increase the game’s player base. If the continuous updates and expansions are any indication, it seems Rockstar is hoping these online experiences last for quite some time. While players who criticize Rockstar’s online games may not like every aspect of these games, it seems like Rockstar has no intention of simply moving on from them at the moment.

Grand Theft Auto Online is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
