GTA Online's new Doomsday Heist has now been released, and with it comes a huge amount of new content for players of the highly successful online title to enjoy.

Announced relatively recently, the Doomsday Heist is the first heist to be released for GTA Online since the release of the Heists update back in 2015, but the namesake heist is not the only element of this new update. The Doomsday Heist is also GTA Online's Title Update 1.42, and contains a swathe of changes and new content alongside the heist itself.

The key new element of the update is Facilities, which give the players access to the new heist and stores the Mammoth Avenger, a new aircraft. There are nine purchasable locations for Facilities across the map, and Facilities can be customized with add-ons such as Sleeping Quarters, a Security Room, and even an Orbital Cannon. Facilities can also store up to seven personal vehicles and having one allows a player to call in a strike team and fire the aforementioned orbital cannon.

The Doomsday Heist also adds fifteen new vehicles to the game, nine of which are weaponized, with one other coming with the option of fitting weapons. Six weapons have been added alongside the vehicles, all of which are "Mk II" versions of existing firearms. Finally, the update adds 20+ clothing items, 30 tattoos, and 26 new face paints. Coming so soon after the release of the recent multiplayer DLC, Rockstar certainly seems to be trying to keep their players stocked with new content.

The patch notes for Title Update 1.42 reveal other additions including:

  • A new radio station
  • Saved outfit slots have been doubled.
  • Balancing tweaks for weapons.
  • Lester's "Remove Wanted Level" option becomes free upon completing the Doomsday Heist.

All of this new content could well be aimed to keep GTA Online's players entertained as Rockstar prepares for the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, after which they have implied that the GTA Online update schedule may slow down.

Given that GTA 5 recently became the best-selling video game of all time, the Doomsday Heist seems set to keep players engaged with the title until the release of Rockstar's next game. And given the success of GTA Online, it seems likely that the developer will continue to release updates for the game even after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.
