Rockstar announces the Cunning Stunts DLC for GTA Online, which promises to bring massive, death defying, stunt racing to the game, along with new cars and customization options.
Rockstar Games has been getting creative with the variety of game modes that they’ve been adding to Grand Theft Auto Online. The game company just added the Power Play game mode, which puts a twist on the game’s traditional PvP by adding powerful and weird powerups to the gameplay. Rockstar seems to be sticking with this formula of outrageous gameplay with the announcement of the Cunning Stunts DLC for Grand Theft Auto Online.
The Cunning Stunts DLC will focus on over-the-top stunt racing on insane tracks around Los Santos. The DLC was announced this morning on Rockstar’s website with a trailer, screenshots of the tracks, and a description of the new game mode:
“Be daring, defy gravity and punch your fears straight in the mouth with Cunning Stunts…Vehicles tear upside-down through loops and tubes, launch off ramps with extra propulsion from speed strips, diverge and merge across multiple pathways, and speed through gigantic rings of fire in death-defying new Races.”
From what can be seen in the trailer and screenshots, it seems that Rockstar is fully embracing the wackiness that is always present in the Grand Theft Auto universe. The game developer also announced a number of cosmetic additions that will come with the update, “…of course, racing livery-clad vehicles deserve appropriately tatted and dressed drivers, sporting new motocross gear, racing suits, helmets and a host of other additions.”
This is a major addition to the game’s racing component, with certain tracks and stunts being made for specific vehicle classes. And as can be seen in the trailer, the tracks are packed full of boosts, obstacles, and spiralling loops to keep races at a constant white knuckle intensity.
If the profits that the online game has generated are any indication, GTA Online has definitely done a good job at giving its players what they want. The Further Adventures in Finance and Felony update has proven to be a major hit with fans of the game and Rockstar seems committed to regularly putting out new content for as long as the online mode is supported.
But with every new update comes the inevitable question of the in-game prices of all these new items. While GTA Online’s DLC is free, many find the price of the in-game items to be prohibitively expensive and only realistically available through microtransactions. One player already reported spending $1 million of in-game money to purchase a gun locker, so many are probably expecting the purchasable items in the Cunning Stunts to come with a large price tag.
Should Rockstar make their in-game content more available to players that don’t want participate in microtransactions? Let us know in the comments.
Grand Theft Auto Online can be played through Grand Theft Auto 5, which is out now and available for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
