Rockstar Games has officially announced the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition collection, which bundles together remasters of Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It's a package Grand Theft Auto fans have been asking for over the past several years, and Rockstar is finally delivering. Of course, now that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has been announced, Grand Theft Auto fans are already asking for more.

Following the announcement of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, fans were quick to hit social media with hot takes regarding the Grand Theft Auto games that didn't make the cut. It started with pointing out the various modern spin-off Grand Theft Auto games notably missing from the collection. A meme shared on Reddit by NightVelocity1 shows Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars drowning while Rockstar holds GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas above water.

The memes escalated from there, naturally. If Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and Chinatown Wars were drowning, then all of the classic Grand Theft Auto games had sunk into the abyss. Another meme from Redditor GoldenSaddle showed Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto: London 1969, and Grand Theft Auto Advance down next to a sunken ship. At least the other titles are near the surface.

Behind the memes is a surprisingly popular sentiment among Grand Theft Auto fans. As exciting as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition's release is, it would be exciting to see the classic GTA games re-released, too. A remaster of the original top-down GTA titles made for the original PlayStation, or a collection of the mobile games developed by Rockstar Leeds for PSP, would likely have an excited audience waiting for them.

There is, of course, no evidence that Rockstar is making - or even considering making - a collection of any of its other games beyond the three classic Grand Theft Auto releases in the new remaster. Fans can't even get Rockstar to re-release Bully, Grand Theft Auto 4, or Red Dead Redemption, after all, so these demands seem unlikely to be met.

Regardless, the enthusiasm surrounding the Grand Theft Auto franchise is palpable. For a series that's subsisted on the success of a single GTA title, Grand Theft Auto 5, for eight years, excitement for Grand Theft Auto has never been higher. Rockstar really could re-release the original Grand Theft Auto at this point and have it be a staggering success, as these memes make it clear that fans want to see it.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition releases in 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
