Although Rockstar Games previously revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is only in early development, some fans think that the game is further along than the studio is letting on. Moreover, some members of the fan base believe that Rockstar has been teasing Grand Theft Auto 6 all along, but only those who know where to look are picking up the clues.

One of those supposed clues can be found on a website in Grand Theft Auto 5. The site references the Vice City lifestyle of the 1980s, which some believe is an oddly specific reference. No one can be sure, but it is possible that this is a way to support the rumors surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6’s settings.

Prior rumors for Grand Theft Auto 6 have claimed that the game will be set in two different locations. One is Vice City, the Miami-inspired, neon-soaked landscape featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. And the other is Carcer City, which rumors claim will be Grand Theft Auto 6’s approximation of Boston, similar to how Los Santos mimicked Los Angeles/Southern California.

The detail that seems to tie everything together is the 1980s header and drug backdrop, since the rumors claim that players will take on the role of a drug lord during the time period. Much like the aforementioned Los Santos was reprised in GTA 5, the rumors claim that Vice City will get the upgraded treatment in GTA 6.

Of course, rumors are only that until Rockstar Games makes something official. It’s fun to consider where Grand Theft Auto 6 might be set or who might be its protagonist, but Rockstar Games loves to subvert expectations and march to the beat of its own drum. Fans may think that the studio is planning some type of secretive marketing plan, but usually, the developer is very straightforward when it comes to announcing its games. There are rarely surprise appearances during a press conference – like the upcoming PS5 event – and the devs never give fans the full picture.

Most importantly, it’s hard to imagine that Rockstar Games would have the foresight to put in Easter Eggs that point towards a game that likely won’t release until 2023 or 2024. This may just be Rockstar wanting to get the fans speculating and in that case, it’s a job well done.
