The Cayo Perico Heist update went live yesterday, unlocking access to a remote private island for the biggest heist in Grand Theft Auto Online yet. The update also adds new content such as new vehicles, weapons, clothing, and radio stations. However, the update has caused fans to express their disappointment with the lack of news for Grand Theft Auto 6, causing the subject to trend on Twitter.

Before Rockstar revealed the Cayo Perico Heist, the update was teased with Grand Theft Auto Online  in-game events and a cryptic message posted on social media. The teaser also prompted the term GTA 6 to start trending on Twitter, with some fans believing the teaser could be for GTA 6, and some expressing anger over Rockstar adding new content to the seven year-old Grand Theft Auto Online title.

Now that the Cayo Perico update has been released, fans are once again are flooding social media with memes making fun of the potential release date of GTA 6. Rockstar has yet to announce any news about GTA 6, and has only posted about the Cayo Perico update on social media, which also been met with some negative feedback due to the Cayo Perico island being unavailable for free roam.

Some fans are still hoping that Grand Theft Auto 6 news is on the horizon, but based on Rockstar's plan to release GTA 5 and GTA Online on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021, the focus seems to still be on the current titles. The entire Grand Theft Auto community has been divided, with some fans grateful for the continued support of GTA Online, while others think that the title has lost its appeal.

Twitch streamer Shroud has joined the side that believes the title has lost its appeal. The streamer spoke on the topic, saying that GTA Online has been "a flop" to him, citing the reason being the title has gone in a direction that caused him to lose interest. Shroud also shared his hopes for GTA 6, saying "I’d love to see GTA 6 care about the modding community and work together on a united front."

Although the Cayo Perico update adds lots of new content including a pilotable weaponized submarine, it has been overshadowed by fans' debating about Grand Theft Auto 6. Some fans would like to see Rockstar take its time with the development of GTA 6 so the title is not rushed and filled with bugs, while others are just hoping for any sliver of news or leaks. For now, fans can still enjoy the Cayo Perico Heist, which allows players to take on the mission solo for the first time.

GTA Online is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with versions for the PS5 and Xbox One X/S in development.
