The Grand Theft Auto franchise has maintained a constant footprint in the games industry since it transitioned into a fully 3D experience, but Grand Theft Auto 5 has propelled the franchise to new heights. That’s largely thanks to Grand Theft Auto Online, which has been regularly updated for nearly eight years now. However, fans are now itching for GTA 6 – though some much more than others.

On a recent episode of the German show Schlag den Star, a fan rushed the stage to demand updates about Grand Theft Auto 6. Specifically, the fan wanted to know what Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date was, confusing the show’s host, Alexander “Elton” Duszat, and another person on stage. Elton does have some experience in the video game world, portraying Halo 3’s Chips Dubbo in the German localization, but it’s an interesting situation nonetheless.

A clip of the interaction has been making waves over on Reddit, where it was shared by Grand Theft Auto 6 fans. According to translations made by commenters, the fan essentially took to the stage to ask Elton to say “where is GTA 6?” into the camera, though the host refused. There was a bit of back and forth between the people on stage, but the man was eventually escorted off by security.

There have been rumors about when Grand Theft Auto 6 will release, though there’s been no official confirmation about the game thus far. While some have stated that it’s nearing completion, reputable leakers and insiders have painted a different picture. According to many authoritative voices, Grand Theft Auto 6 is still years away, being in the early stages of development.

Calls for updates on Grand Theft Auto 6’s progress aren’t rare, though this is certainly an extreme case. Clearly, this fan was trying to make a statement, or at least get some sort of update from Rockstar, though a German reality TV show is a strange place to try and get a message out. The host, while involved in games to a degree, even stated that he hadn’t finished GTA 5 yet.

An update on Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn’t seem likely for the foreseeable future, at least not until the next big video game event rolls through. There’s always the possibility for updates during something like a surprise State of Play – or even Rockstars own special event – but it’s generally best to keep expectations tempered.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is rumored to be in development.
