The early 2000s established Rockstar Games as one of the top video game developers in the world, largely thanks to the runaway success of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy of games on the PS2. There's a great deal of hype for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 thanks to the high bar set by the previous Grand Theft Auto games, but unfortunately, the game remains unannounced at the time of this writing.

Rockstar Games itself has not officially announced Grand Theft Auto 6, and so nothing is really known about the game in an official capacity. But while official details on Grand Theft Auto 6 and what it may entail remain scarce, fans have continued to speculate about what the game will be like. But it's not just fans speculating. Rockstar Games co-founder Jamie King, who left the company in 2006, has speculated that the next game in the series may lose some of its edge.

In an interview with YouTuber Killazspain, King speculated that the "tone" of Grand Theft Auto 6 could be different when compared to previous games in the series. He added that this could mean that Grand Theft Auto 6 is "not quite as edgy or quite as funny."

As it stands, there is nothing that fans know about Grand Theft Auto 6 officially, but some reputable leakers have revealed some details that could very well turn out to be true. If the leaks are to be believed, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in Vice City, and it will feature a female playable protagonist. Apparently, GTA 6 could include two protagonists (one male, one female) that players switch between, similarly to how Grand Theft Auto 5 had three protagonists.

Details about the Grand Theft Auto 6 online multiplayer component has been teased as well, with leakers suggesting that the game will have an evolving map like Fortnite. Whether or not there's any truth to these claims remains to be seen, and with no Grand Theft Auto 6 announcement in sight, it's likely that fans will still have to wait years to find out one way or another.

GTA fans have quite the long wait ahead of them when it comes to Grand Theft Auto 6. They may want to check out the next-gen ports of Grand Theft Auto 5 to help tide them over in the meantime, with that set to launch at some point in March 2022.

Grand Theft Auto 6 has not been announced.
