If anyone can get knowledge of when the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 will finally release, streaming giant Netflix might be the closest in terms of buying power. The company put out a strange tweet recently confirming that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be "coming soon."

Granted, the tweet came from the Netflix France account and without any context whatsoever, though the claim left many gamers confused. Leaks and rumors concerning Grand Theft Auto 6 have been flying left and right for some time now, though the last entity anyone thought would get involved was Netflix. Although other movie and TV streaming platforms have dabbled in video game streaming, Netflix has never made any indication that they were interested, let alone being a part of an announcement as big as Grand Theft Auto 6.

However, Netflix France appeared to hint at some type of insider knowledge regarding the open-world sandbox on April 13th when the account randomly tweeted "basically, GTA VI is coming soon." Naturally, social media was set ablaze as fans clamored to probe the company for more information on the mysterious tweet.

One Twitter user, Yan2295, followed Netflix in jest, responding with "yes, but in fact no." Another user, Hakim Aznakd, inquired about how long the wait would be to which Netflix, now more clearly trolling, responded, "Between today and the end of the world, let's see." When further pressed about what they meant, the account clarified, "That we risk waiting for the game for a while yet," ending it with a laughing emoji.

The company further joked, saying that the game will "arrive when it is ready, like a series, must be produced." It makes sense that Netflix would know how much time and effort goes into properly crafting a product, despite not being a game developer. Still, for those who might have had a tinge of hope regarding an upcoming announcement, it's clear that the streaming monolith was just poking some fun.

Overall, there's tons of hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6, so much so that even Netflix knows exactly what to say to get people excited. On the other hand, hype like this is precisely why the game is already at a major disadvantage. While it may not suffer as terrible a fate as Cyberpunk 2077, if player expectations aren't contained by Rockstar sooner than later, the game could see some major setbacks.
