Grand Theft Auto 5 has been out for nearly a decade now, first releasing on PS3 and Xbox 360 before making its way to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. And now Grand Theft Auto 5 is set to be re-released yet again, with the landmark game releasing later this year for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Rockstar Games has kept mostly quiet about what fans can expect from the next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto 5, but some new details have come thanks to dataminers.

As reported by user TezFunz2, dataminer alloc8or has dug through the latest Grand Theft Auto Online update and has found some clues as to what Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X will entail. According to their findings, it seems likely that Rockstar Games will allow Grand Theft Auto 5 players to transfer their single-player saves from the current-gen versions of the game to the next-gen versions. This would be in stark contrast to how the PS4 and Xbox One ports were handled, as they didn't allow SP save transfers.

Rockstar did let Grand Theft Auto 5 users transfer their GTA Online information from PS3 and Xbox 360 to PS4 and Xbox One back in the day, but stopped allowing it a few years ago. Apparently some new Character Transfer services are being prepared for the next-gen launch of Grand Theft Auto 5, but more specific details aren't available at this time.

Rockstar Games has kept mostly quiet about Grand Theft Auto 5 on next-gen consoles so far, with no proper reveal beyond the trailer that was shown at the PS5 Future of Gaming event last year. However, the Grand Theft Auto 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X release date is mere months away at this point, and so one has to imagine that more concrete information is going to come sooner rather than later.

While Rockstar hasn't offered a deep dive into the next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto 5 just yet, it has teased that fans can look forward to some next-gen exclusive content in the GTA Online multiplayer mode. Evidently, GTA Online on next-gen consoles will have exclusive vehicle upgrades. But as is the case with everything else that we've learned about GTA 5 and GTA Online on next-gen consoles, more specific details are not available at this time.

There are rumors that a PlayStation State of Play event is taking place in August or September, so maybe the wait for more GTA 5 next-gen news will be a short one.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
