Rockstar Games‘ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5 has been taking a backseat to titles like Assassin’s Creed 3, Halo 4, and Black Ops 2 as of late, but all that will change come next month. As revealed by a promotional image released earlier this week, Rockstar plans to deliver fans a wealth of GTA V information, which should presumably include details on a main character and potentially a release date.
However, before fans can hear it straight from the dragon’s mouth, a site has come across a piece of signage for Grand Theft Auto 5 that teases a release window for the game. It’s hard to discern based on the orientation of the image, but nonetheless it reveals that Grand Theft Auto 5 will be releasing in the Spring of 2013.
The image itself, which comes courtesy of fan forum GTA-Five, is comprised of several different Grand Theft Auto 5 mini-images, including the one released by Rockstar earlier this week. The presence of that signature art style suggests the banner is legit, but since the image comes by way of a European fan site it’s hard to discern whether the release window is for North America as well.
Moreover, it’s impossible to tell where this image came from, which would assist in evaluating its legitimacy. It has been rumored for quite some time that Rockstar would be targeting a March or May release date for GTA 5, but that was based on past trends.
So far, we know that Rockstar Games will be taking gamers back to the city of Los Santos — an all encompassing Southern California location that apes Los Angeles and San Francisco among others. However, beyond what we can glean from the trailer there hasn’t been much from Rockstar in terms of concrete info. Early rumors hinted that the game might be a Wii U release, but the lack of Nintendo’s emblem on the banner suggests otherwise.
Game Informer has a huge 18-page spread prepped for Grand Theft Auto 5 so it stands to reason that the Rockstar Games reveal and the magazine cover are one in the same. Whether or not a release date will be part of that equation is unknown, but even confirmation of a release window would be enough.
As soon as Rockstar Games reveals more about GTA 5, rest assured we’ll be there to bring you all the details.
