Without a doubt, Rockstar Games' open world release Grand Theft Auto 5 has been host to a plethora of fantastic mods that manage to import a variety of different pop culture artifacts into the title, such as the mod that makes a playable Iron Man an actuality and one that incorporates the Gravity Gun from Valve's Half-Life series. While there are definitely loads more mods that add yet another level of fun and incredulity to the already ridiculous world of Los Santos, it's safe to say that none come close to being as schwifty as modder Jedidiah515's Rick and Morty mod that puts the Adult Swim show's resident super genius Rick Sanchez into the game.
As seen in the video below courtesy of the YouTube channel Modded Games, Grand Theft Auto 5 becomes even more chaotic once Rick Sanchez hits the streets. For instance, the alcoholic scientist not only has his wanted level reach the maximum cap to take on the city's entire police force, but also he cruises around in his spaceship while hitting up the game's exotic dance clubs, all while espousing most, if not all of his ridiculous catch-phrases.
As many fans will likely agree, Jedidiah515's work with the Rick and Morty mod is quite accomplished, as it nails the signature artistic style of the Adult Swim show's characters. In truth, the only aspects missing from the modder's creation is Rick's patented teleportation gun, and the accompaniment of his young grandson Morty.
Interestingly enough, this isn't the first instance of the Adult Swim character having his likeness be portrayed in a video game by the way of mods. As a matter of fact, a Fallout 4 player made a Rick and Morty mod that changed some of the post-apocalyptic RPG's NPCs into figures from the TV show, as they depicted several of the modder UpIsNotJump's favorite scenes from the animated program's first season.
For those who enjoy Jedidiah515's Rick and Morty mod and have a hankering to experience the character in the video game realm outside of Los Santos, Owlchemy Labs has collaborated with Adult Swim Games to release a VR title called Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality next week on April 20, 2017 (AKA 420). Should the VR title do well in sales, perhaps it will spur on the creation of a more traditional console and PC release in the future.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
