A PC mod developer has released a new Grand Theft Auto V gameplay trailer for Redux Overhaul, an upcoming re-shader that will offer improvements to textures, lighting and more.

Grand Theft Auto V was easily one of the most impressive games released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 generation of consoles when it first came out in 2013. Things have only gotten better since then, of course, with the game receiving graphical improvements and other tweaks upon release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. But it's that last platform in particular that has really extended Grand Theft Auto V's lifespan.

As most know, the PC version of GTA V is the only that supports mods, and it didn't take long for all kinds of crazy and weird add-ons to start popping up online shortly after support went live. Gamers have been able to turn themselves into animals and superheroes, go back in time to earlier versions of GTA and can even play with armor and weapons from completely different franchises.

All of that said, the upcoming "Redux Overhaul" mod may be one of the most impressive we've seen yet. Rock, Paper, Shotgun notes that Redux is technically a reshade mod, but the add-on tackles a wide range of graphical enhancements that will include re-tuning for everything from textures to blood animations. The mod's developer, Josh Romito, released a new seven and a half minute preview of Redux earlier this week.

If it weren't for some of the iconic sights GTA V is known for like the Ferris Wheel, one might think they were looking at an entirely brand new game. The new weather effects (at 1:00) of the video look especially impressive. The developer initially said he was planning on taking it "day by day" but has now posted a message at the beginning of the trailer stating that he plans on announcing a release date within the next day or two thanks to the attention the mod has received.

Grand Theft Auto V isn't the only old PC game about to receive some major updates thanks to a mod. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has had a vibrant modding community for years, and longtime fans are now eagerly awaiting the release of at least two upcoming mods, Beyond Skyrim and Enderal, both of which will offer graphical upgrades as well as new environments and content. These are not to be confused, of course, with the official Bethesda remaster of the game, Skyrim: Special Edition, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this October.
