Grand Theft Auto 5's journey from consoles to PC was a long and rocky one (although not as rocky as Batman: Arkham Knight's). It took months for Rockstar to confirm the PC release date and gamers were writing petition, begging on Reddit, and screaming from the rooftops for a PC port. The PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 eventually did arrive and with it came all the mods and performance min maxing that comes along with the PC elite territory.

The modding community for Grand Theft Auto 5 has been on fire lately and is starting to rival the Skyrim modders as some of the most impressive on the scene. The recent Iron Man and Hulkbuster mods brought a little bit of Marvel to Los Santos and gave the game a whole new feel. The latest impressive mod is more about changing the game's skin than it is about adding weird and new elements. That may not sound as exciting, but this photorealistic graphics mod is stunning.

The graphical overhaul mod is called Toddyhancer and was developed by Reddit user Toddyftw. The mod is similar to the very popular ICEnhancer mod for GTA4 and also aims to enhance lighting effects and in-game graphics to create a more realistic environment. Take a look at the video and the screenshots to see what the mod brings to the table (the video demo is of the current build, the screenshots are a bit older). It gets even more impressive when you think about how great the game looked to begin with.

There's no question that the mod takes the game's environmental graphics to the next level. The characters look a little out of place in this world of realistic streets, shrubs, and cars; but everything else looks amazing. Maybe just stay in first person mode to avoid that problem. For car junkies, the improvements to the paint jobs and details on every vehicle are likely the most impressive thing about this mod.

For anyone who wonders why PC gamers think playing off console is worth the wait, this kind of mod is a great example of the PC perks. The modding community keeps the game alive and growing for months (and often years) after console players have unlocked every trophy and moved on to the next game. From what we've seen so far, the GTA5 modding community has proven to be incredibly resourceful and we expect them to stay active and entertaining until Rockstar's next game is delivered to the PC elite.

What do you think of the graphical overhaul mod? Will you be installing and giving it a try? Let us know in the comments.
