Since its announcement back in November of 2011, gamers had always assumed that Grand Theft Auto 5 would come to PC. Granted, there was some fear that we might have a Red Dead Redemption situation (i.e. a PC port gets teased but nothing ever happens), but if GTA 4 made the jump it stood to reason that 5 would follow suit.
And while it did take some waiting, Rockstar Games finally confirmed that, yes, Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming to PC, as well as next-gen consoles. However, when Rockstar made the announcement they did not reveal a release date.
So, once again we delve into rumor and speculation territory for Grand Theft Auto 5, only this time with regards to the PC and next-gen versions‘ release dates. Officially, we have no idea when the hugely popular (34 million copies sold popular) game might hit, but a recent posting from Amazon Germany suggests the ports are scheduled for a November 14th release.
This is obviously not the first time we’ve heard a November release date for GTA 5 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and it likely won’t be the last. Earlier this year, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that Rockstar had a 2014 next-gen release in the works, and we now know that title is GTA 5. However, when Zelnick said 2014 he meant the fiscal year, which extends all the way until March of next year. In other words, there’s no guarantee GTA 5 will hit PC before the end of this year, even if it is very likely.
As far as why Rockstar Games is playing coy with the release date, most are inclined to believe that’s simply the developer’s M.O. However, we might be inclined to believe Rockstar is timing the release of these current-gen ports with the release of heist missions for GTA Online. There has to be something to convince gamers to upgrade beyond improved graphical fidelity.
For now, though, we play the waiting game — waiting for heists, waiting to hear more about single player DLC, and waiting for PC, PS4, and Xbox One release dates.
When do you think Grand Theft Auto 5 might release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One? Why do you think Rockstar is waiting so long to announce a release date?
